What comic book do YOU want to see made into a movie?

Let's see, what comics have been made into movies? Superman (and there'll be a new one out in 2006), Batman (and there'll be a new one out in 2005), Spiderman (new one out this summer), X-Men (new one out 2006), Hulk, Catwoman (this summer (and I think it's going to be a stinker)), Fantastic Four, Constantine, Hellboy, Wonder Woman, The Punisher, etc etc etc.

Personally, I'd most like to see Neil Gaiman's Sandman series made into several intelligent movies.

After Brian K. Vaughan's Y: The Last Man develops more, I think that would made a really intelligent movie, as well.

The Courtney Crumrin books would be way better than Harry Potter.

Maybe a good question for the I Love Comics board?

>Maybe a good question for the I Love Comics board?

[sigh] You're probably right. I didn't see the I Love Comics board.

I like Courtney Crumrin, too. Very cute and better than Gloomcookie.

Courtney Crumrin would be cute.
But I think I'd rather see a film version of Brian Wood's Channel Zero.

Y would be a much better TV series. Fits the old Fugitive model perfectly too.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

teenage mutant ninja turtles, obv.

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Deathpool

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

What was the female character that was developed by Kavalier and Clay? Luna Moth? I thought she sounded toothsome.

I was thinking last night that it would be excellent if a Quimby The Mouse story got turned into a short film - the one where Sparky goes to the North Pole.

Sandman (natcherelly)
Watchmen (natch)
Love and Rockets
Bone!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (must be animation, though)
Halo Jones
Wasn't there gonna be a Foolkiller movie some years ago? That will be awesome (as in inspiring of awe) "Live a poem, or die a fool!"

PuzzleMonkey (PuzzleMonkey), Saturday, 6 March 2004 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't imagine that Hollywood could do a decent Sandman. They'd whitewash it of its darker themes and cast ohmygod Jennifer Love Hewitt to play Death (did anyone else hear how the studio wanted to cast her as Enid in "Ghost World"? One shudders to think) and some stereotypical dark, broody actor like Johnny Depp to play my beloved Dream. I'd rather see Gaiman's "American Gods" as a movie.

Natalie (Penny Dreadful), Saturday, 6 March 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Natalie, I think we all live in a dreamworld where, one day, someone will make a really fantastic movie of a great GN/comic. Post LOTR it actually feels remotely possible. The key would be the director. I would like to see someone like Christopher Nolan (Memento)'s take on Sandman or (oh Heaven!) Robert Altman doing Watchmen. And I think Depp would play a better Sandman than most. People tend to forget how much humour, black, drifting, and oblique, but very funny, there is in Sandman and Depp would show traces of that very well.

Hmmm, American Gods. Larger that Life cast, mythic themes, American psyche. Pure Altman. Or Peter Jackson (yeah, I know), no, wait, Fincher! (Fight Club). Or the Coen Brothers. Hmmm Steve Buscemi as Shadow, John Turturo as Loki, John Rhys Davies as Wednesday.

Actually, Turturro would make a very strange Dream. Although, considering the number of nominations for Dream in the Crushes thread, you would probably need someone pretty but the first one to say Brad Pitt wins a hefty smack! And you over there, thinking Orlando Bloom, don't even say it, just go stand in the corner!

PuzzleMonkey (PuzzleMonkey), Sunday, 7 March 2004 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

There is a line from Neil Gaiman (poss. about the Good Omens adaptation) about how the studio had previously been acting like someone who had bought a tub of chocolate chip ice cream and complained that it was full of small pieces of chocolate, but had moved on to complaining that it was cold and sweet.

I think it's possible to make a good film out of the Sandman, but not to make one that would make most Sandman fans happy.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 7 March 2004 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's see, I once tried making my dream cast for The Sandman. I think I chose:

Dream: Adrian Brody
Death: Zooey Deschanel
Destiny: Neil Gaiman
Destruction: Sean Bean
Desire: Selma Blair
Despair: ? Roseanne ?
Delirium: Evan Rachel Wood

I'd watch The Sandman as a film... as long as Peter Jackson directed it.

Being an old school 80s comic fan:

American Flagg
V for Vendetta
Grimjack
Scout
Miracleman
Mage
Grendel
Ronin (Frank Miller)

earlnash, Thursday, 11 March 2004 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish this thread was on my board.

Queen & Country
Batman: Year One (directed by Michael Mann not Aronofsky)
Kabuki: Circle of Blood (Julie Taymor?)

My cast for Sandman:

Dream: Katie Holmes
Death: Katie Holmes
Destiny: Katie Holmes
Destruction: Katie Holmes
Desire: Katie Holmes
Despair: Katie Holmes
Delirium: Katie Holmes

Leee the Lee (Leee), Friday, 12 March 2004 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

there's been tv show's but would like to see better on the big screen

the flash,captain america,green lantern

ron macomber, Monday, 22 March 2004 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

It would be really easy, special effects-wise, to do a Love and Rockets and DAMN wouldn't that be great?

Ann Sterzinger (Ann Sterzinger), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 04:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Hover cars, Dinosaurs, Horn-headed millionaires... could be quite expensive.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Courtney Crumrin would make a great movie series. Peter Jackson is a great director but i don't know if his style fits with comics. We should go for more of a tim burton like director, dont even mention spielberg! Courtney could be played by the little girls in cat in the hat, once they get a little bit older, and her uncle could be played by someone who is reminiscent of vincent price. her classmates, obiously dont need to be great actors because they are idiots anyway! lets not forget butterbitch...whatshisname....cream? maybe? dont remember, anyway he could be played by matthew mCconaughey, because his dialogue in the comics reminds me of his unique southern accent. just a thought from a naifeh fan!

Lisa R Davis, Monday, 8 May 2006 01:55 (nineteen years ago)

anything by r. Crumb.

Been done. Try to scare up a copy of Fritz the Cat, the world's first X-rated feature cartoon. These days it would be an easy R, never an X, but you can't go back and change history.

Aimless (Aimless), Monday, 8 May 2006 03:41 (nineteen years ago)

These days people would decline to even touch the part with the black neighborhood, actually.

This thread is like ILBooks whimpering bloody at the feet of ILFilm and ILComics. :(

Leee's cast for sandman would be a fantastic, fantastic movie, though.

My family has debated on a possible cast for the Sandman comics for years. So far we've come up with:

Dream: Johnny Depp
[Definitely, he has star power and the acting chops to do the job right]

Death (in order of pref.): Reese Witherspoon/ Cameron Diaz/ Natalie Portman
[I know Reese Witherspoon is an off-the-wall choice for such a dark series, but she has that bubbly-want-to-know-her personality that Death has]

Desire: Selma Blair/ Anne Heche/ Leonardo DiCaprio/ Angelina Jolie/ Wynona Rider/ Jared Leto
[I think that Desire would be the hardest to cast because you need someone that looks feminine, but that also still retains that feminine air]

Delirium: Drew Barrymore/ Courtney Love (if she's stable)

Despair: Kathy Bates

Destruction: Robert Deniro

Destiny: Patrick Stewart

Calliope: Rebecca Romijn

Lucifer: Brad Pitt/ Tom Cruise
[Both can pull off pretty and pull off arrogant]

I so want a Sandman film, but it would be so hard to make a comprehendible movie out of so much backstory.

Rufus, Sunday, 28 May 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think Sandman would make a good film. But I'd love to see "Strontium Dog - The Movie", with a proper muppety Gronk.

The rumors of a We3 movie excite me beyond words.
