Used books, bargain bins, and collected Works

When buying books, I will go to used book shops, look in regular books shops' bargain bins, and, if forced to choose a new book, will buy the complete works of some long-dead author. Does this make me a bad person?

I don't think so. I think it just makes you frugal. With the amount of books I purchase, I have to get some sale/bargain/used books here and there just so I don't feel bad about the amount of money I'm constantly spending.

If you limit yourself like this, though, you might be missing out on some stellar reads. But then, if there's a new book you want and you can't bring yourself to buy it, just ask for it birthday/Christmas time.

I think it makes you a good person - I like the thought that books (didn't Emily D. refer to them as the writer's children? Someone did, I think) aren't forever discarded or lost. Those words were/are someone's dreams and thoughts and fears and inspirations - and I'm all for seeing them revived and given another chance at being read. Corny, I know.

I love my used book shop. The towering piles of books far taller than me add a sense of danger. I avoid buying new books as much as possible as i know i will be able to get it far cheaper and keep a great shop afloat.

There is something about a bargain bin or used bookstore that
states "Hidden Treasure'!! Plus you save money! A new book is
great but it can leave a big hole if you are on a tight budget!

But then you find fifteen books you want for two dollars apiece and waddle out dropping them everywhere and wind up having spent way more money than you should've because "it's so cheap..."
