I'm not sure how strong on anthropology and social sciences these are, but in addition to Myopic, you might want to check out Armadillo's Pillow (6753 N. Sheridan, Morse red line stop), Booklegger's (2907 N. Broadway, Belmont stop [red, brown, purple lines]), Bookman's Alley (1712 Sherman in Evanston, just north of the city but easily accessible by public trans., Davis purple line stop, lots of antique books), or one of the Powell's locations in Lakeview, the south loop, or Hyde Park (2850 N. Lincoln, 828 S. Wabash, and 1501 E. 57th).

They stink, at least if you're looking for something particular.

For your interests, I highly recommend Seminary Coop/57th St. two incredible stores in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, near the University of Chicago. (And no, I don't work for them!)

if you do make it to evanston, you can stop by amaranth at 828 davis on your way back to the train from bookman's alley.

while seminary coop is a great place to stop and see, if he's specifically looking for cheap books it's not his place.

I lived in Evanston for six years and hardly ever saw anything good at Amaranth!
