Those thrilling book moments, or, fun on Friday

Today at work while opening all of the random mail, I came across a panplet for a company that reprints facsimile gothic novels from the Romantic period, with titles like The Priory of St. Clair, or the Spectre of the Murdered Nun! and The Black Forest; or, The Cavern of Death, and The Bloody Hand! I don't know why, but the unexpected quirkiness of it made my day. The sheer book love of it just makes me so happy. I wanted to tell people about it, and I think most would just look at me like a monkey was growing out of my head or something. Please share your bookluvin' moments!

Oh so many to chose from...recently, though, when a package arrived at work for me, and in it was a lovely, cloth-bound, gild-edged, onion skin pages version of "Jane Eyre" waiting for me that my friend had spent her hard earned Canuck loonies on...

As a Harry Potter fan, I love the moment when my fresh edition arrives from WH Smith--I like to read Rowling in the original British. And it's really not that much more expensive than buying it at Barnes & Noble. (Of course I'd rather buy it in person in London, but that's not always possible....)

I found a first edition of "Valley Of The Dolls" at a Goodwill store, and that made me happy for a week. Not many people understood why.

When the new James Kelman, "You Have to Be Careful in the Land of the Free," landed on my doorstep. God, I have been waiting for this book for six months now.

I was never so happy as when a package arrived from Amazon.com with the 12 books containing the History of Middle Earth compiled by Tolkien's son Christopher! Another great joy came from finding out that a second hand shop of English books had opened in Madrid.
