what does S/D stand for?

Enquiring minds want to know. This might be the shortest thread ever!!

aimurchie, Friday, 14 May 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Under ilXor FAQ, it says: "S/D stands for Search and Destroy? It is asked of a category - insects or Smiths records, for instance. The answerer says which items in the category they'd advise people to search for and which they'd like to see destroyed. Giving reasons."

Don't know why there's a "?" at the end of the 1st sentence.

Vermont Girl (Vermont Girl), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

And C/D is Classic or Dud and TS is Taking Sides. Just so you know.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Or just so everybody knows. ILX has a language all its own. Alison, you should really check out I Love Everything sometime. There are some good threads on there.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 14 May 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I much prefer it here. If it wasn't for the football threads, I wouldn't bother posting on ILE at all.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Friday, 14 May 2004 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

OPO = Only Pick One

I'm kinda burned-out on ILE (though I still findly think of it as "home") and much prefer ILB, all the way 'round.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 14 May 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad you asked. I was wondering too.

pepektheassassin (pepektheassassin), Friday, 14 May 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I flit between the ILE and ILB. I can't believe sometimes how much more civilized it is here.

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 14 May 2004 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes: it is like being in a library.

But not the library I am in right now, where children's voices bleat aloud behind me.

the pomefox, Saturday, 15 May 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a little nervous about venturing from ILB. What will I wear?! Do I Love Everything? I expect I will come racing back to this sanctuary.

aimurchie, Saturday, 15 May 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Call me an idiot, but...I Googled I Love Everything, and ILE and ILX etc. and didn't find it. Can you send me a link (I got on this through Maria. I'm useless with technology, I know.Still don't know how to operate the DVD or the VCR) Thanks.

aimurchie, Sunday, 16 May 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Alison, just go to the top of this page and click on ilXor.com

Or go here: http://ilx.wh3rd.net/newquestions.php?board=1

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 16 May 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

little did i know I was in a world within a world! I went, I saw, I scrolled. The politics is good as it will keep me from ranting away here. But I like ILB the best. And i feel like an idiot for not knowing where here is.

aimurchie, Monday, 17 May 2004 02:53 (twenty-one years ago)

ILB is the tea-drinking arm of ILE. And we all wear glasses.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 17 May 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

since we're discussing this, maybe you can help me too and tell me what OTM stands for?
thanx

misshajim (strand), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

OTM = On The Money

robster (robster), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

and "on the money" stands for? (sorry, English is not my first language)

misshajim (strand), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

It means 'spot on'. Hmm, that probably doesn't help either. Basically the person who says it is agreeing with your post.

I think all acronyms are stupid btw.

Ha!

Mikey G (Mikey G), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks!!!

misshajim (strand), Monday, 17 May 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel very strange and a little dirty from ILX. It's very chaotic there. But some threads bring up familiar monikers, and that makes me happy. But then it makes me sad. I think I was better off in my bubble. Not to imply that I am not POSTING ALL OVER ILX.yes indeed, I can debate flip flop issues with the best of 'em. But ILB is home. Click your heels three times.

aimurchie, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

After reading ILX I often need a long shower. WIth ILB a quick wipe around iwth a flannel and I'm fragrent once more.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I plan to keep a container of those "baby wipes" around to allow some quick washing up before returning to ILB. And mouthwash - it will sit next to the big bottle of wine.

aimurchie, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

MsLaura!! I miss you!

I rarely come over here as I'm afraid you'll all make me feel stupid for not reading more. I've been reading the same two books for a couple of months now.

hmm, does ILE count as a book?

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I am an ILE ringer! This is the first time I have ever posted on this board, but I HAVE been down the pub with a bunch of you lot already so I am PERFECTLY AWARE that this "civilised" lark is LIES LIES all filthy LIES.

Anyway I came here to say hello to everyone I met, and to talk about books, but where are the conversations about books? Maybe I will look at another thread.

Well, it's an IDEA.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I never feel cool enough for ILX. It's like middle-school insecurities all over again. Back then I'd go hide someone and read... oh wait.

Jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Many of them are cretins, Jocelyn! You have nothing to worry about.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

This is true (and I should know).

VengaDan Perry (aka Big-Time Cretin #1) (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I started this thread, and have exposed myself as someone who did not even catch the clue that ILB is a part of ILX. I don't know how to do anything BUT communicate. I have had nothing but love and support from ILB. If you only read two books a year - who cares? Tell me what you like/dislike about them. In fact, you should start a thread.

aimurchie, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

What does U&K mean?

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Urgent & Key

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

See, we need you here, Dan.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

It stands for Strontium Dog.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Sturm Und Drang.
Sephardic and Dead.

"...it often seems that the poet's derisive comment is not unjustified when he says of the philosopher: " With his nightcaps and the tatters of his dressing gown he patches up the gaps in the structure of the universe." - Sigmund Freud

aimurchie, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel that it must kind of stand for Strontium Dog, as they are Search/Destroy agents.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I have never heard of Strontium Dog. I shall google immediately. otherwise, I don't think I have the brain capacity to go back and forth between ILB and ILX. I must do just one or the other. mikey G, it's nice to "see" you all over the place. I'm still laughing about the "Pistols at Dawn" thread.

aimurchie, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Dan.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

no google conclusion re: Strontium Dog. Is it a comic? Please inform.

aimurchie, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

In the future there were these nuclear wars. As a result, various people were born as MUTANTS. The non-mutant majority hated them, and passed ever more extreme laws barring them from working or associating with normals. In the end, the only work mutants could get was as bounty hunters, officially known as Search/Destroy Agents. But because they had been mutated by Strontium 90, they were more usually known as Strontium Dogs.

Thank you. I am now enlightened as to the origins of Judge Dredd - as well as Strontium Dog
