As a child/young adult there was a book that I absolutely adored. And now I can't recall the title. Here's a summary, from what I recall:
A family is raising a white pig to be a champion - at some point the pig runs away and ends-up at a fountain in a park. Now the fountain is in the shape of a dolphin and the pig falls in love with the sculpture and refuses to eat, drink, or otherwise behave in a proper pig-like manner unless with the beloved dolphin fountain. Eventually the family does get the pig the fountain, but on the way back from a competition the fountain gets broken and the pig flips out. Maybe the father stays awake all night cementing the sculpture together again?
