Martha's Vineyard FAP for Thursday June 10th. Can anyone make it?

aimurchie, Monday, 7 June 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't, but what's a FAP?

pepektheassassin (pepektheassassin), Monday, 7 June 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It's where you meet other e-people in a real place. Sounds like fun but I don't even know where Martha's Vineyard is, though I suspect it's someplace I couldn't get to.

Ann Sterzinger (Ann Sterzinger), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

FAP is fancy a pint - it took me several months to learn this .Martha's Vineyard is a small island off the coast of Massachusetts.
Both together are very intimidating to a novice - like me, for instance.

aimurchie, Tuesday, 8 June 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I can't.

How about Martha's Harbour?

the pinefox, Tuesday, 8 June 2004 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd love to, but I'm just on the wrong continent at the mo.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, I've got loads of All About Eve records.

Can't make it for similar reasons to accentmonkey.

This reminds me, though, we should do a London FAP soon.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

it sounds heavenly but I'm in michigan

slow learner (slow learner), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

One day can we have a Brighton (Rock) FAP?

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I think we should pool our money and buy a large house and all move in together. Books everywhere.

And Ann can wear her see-through dress. Whenever she likes.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

OOOh...you are going to be very jealous when you see the other MV FAPpers. But you must wait.

aimurchie, Tuesday, 8 June 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Mikey, have you been at the E again?

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree with the house idea - but where? Internationally speaking our only middle ground is Iceland. Perhaps we should have fab ILB places on all continents - like a fraternity for nerds. And we can all wear our Nancy Drew pajamas!

aimurchie, Tuesday, 8 June 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

It would be like Big Brother, but with bespectacled housemates. Iceland sounds fine, but as long as a pizza delivery place is near.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

We can make our own pizza! Stone-baked on those hot volcanic rocks I'm sure Iceland has plenty of.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Remember to take photos of the FAP. Then post on here so we can gawp at ya.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't be against meeting up in Iceland. Lots of interesting geology there... I checked of Icelandair and my "Lucky" Fare is over $600.00

I'm not sure I love books that much.

Vermont Girl (Vermont Girl), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

haha i'm moving to iceland next year

tom west (thomp), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I am up for Arkel's ILB FAP, in July.

Maybe we should put our plans where our fingers are.

the bluefox, Tuesday, 8 June 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

What I meant was: Archel's *Brighton* plan -- I am up for it. Next month.

the pomefox, Tuesday, 8 June 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Woo! Franz Kafka, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and Tom Stoppard were all born on 3rd July. Is that as good an excuse as any to have a FAP then (a Saturday this year)?

Mind you, Captain Marryat, Alice Munro and Marcel Proust were born on the 10th...

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay, I can run around naked in a pile of books! WOO! Can we have a room full of pet squirrels too? I say somewhere in Europe that's really warm. Sicily! Maybe Roma. Or Portland, Oregon (if you haven't guessed the American Pacific Northwest and the warmer parts of Italy are my obsessions right now). Anyhow, a July 3 FAP sounds great to me... but depending on where we have it I might not be able to afford it. How about we have a couple simultaneous FAPS so most everybody can make it?

Ann Sterzinger (Ann Sterzinger), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Ann, I thought you didn't want to be googled and ogled. But I would never stop you from running around in a pile of books - although I have some difficulty imagining it. Stubbed toes and scraped shins and such.
If I was naked and running through a pile of books I would hope to stumble and fall upon ...anything by William Kennedy.

aimurchie, Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Allow me to amend that. If I were naked and running through a pile of books I would hope to stumble and fall upon a bottle of gin and a bottle of tonic. And a cup. And some ice. And a robe. And then, perhaps, "Billy Phelan's Greatest Game".

aimurchie, Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

We have Powell's here in Portland. Also beer. So it is possible!

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 13 June 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, accentmonkey -- fancy a pint? I am on O'Connell Street.

the finefox, Monday, 14 June 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

"I say somewhere in Europe that's really warm. Sicily! Maybe Roma"...
oh yes please! make it Rome, I can guarantee for the sun, the beer and icy cold good white wine...

misshajim (strand), Monday, 14 June 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

The Martha's Vineyard FAP was four people/posters who know each other from before. So I don't think it can be considered a FAP - the invite was in hopes that strangers would travel to a small island just to...get their pictures taken? Scott,Maria, Donald (BNL) and me. Scott was pretty busy with their son and his work. There are some very drunken dancing shots of me that you will never see - but we will post a few of us, just so you can see how disheveled and unkempt and nerdish we are.
maria introduced me to the concept of "meat time" which I am now obsessed with. Our non-ILB/ILX friends left our company very confused and perhaps a bit frightened as we remained giggling about "meat time".

There's the progenitor, Scott Seward, with aimurchie.

Maria D., Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

It was actually meatspace. Well, also some meat time - like the burnt burger.

Maria D., Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

http://dutchtoenglish.com/md-donwaldo-aim.jpg

Myself, Donald and Alison.

Maria D., Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

How about in September?

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

OK. What date?

Maria D., Wednesday, 16 June 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be in Oak Bluffs 9-11 through the 18th. I shall be free all nights but the 14th for it is my two year wedding anniversary.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, I didn't get a chance to hang out with aimurchie and donald. I wanted to watch junior so that Maria could party with her pals. Aren't I nice?

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, ain't that sweet, Chris. We'll be here. I think. I don't know of any plans to go anywhere then.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

looking forward to it.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

meat space. meat time. even when I try to be cool I end up not being cool.

aimurchie, Wednesday, 16 June 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Please note the hurt pinky. Both pinkys are splayed, but the hurt one is particularly ...pink.

aimurchie, Thursday, 17 June 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

We should have a FAP at a bookstore! Then we could do something like this:

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 17 June 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

That is so funny.

aimurchie, Thursday, 17 June 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Very funny. I can“t stop laughing.
