I was reading somewhere - maybe here? - about a Joseph Heller novel that has been lost in the immense shadow of Catch 22, and I was wondering if Heller might not have sometimes wished that he never wrote Catch 22, or at least that it hadn't been such a hit. Similarly, I wonder if Philip Roth ever wishes he could escape from Portnoy (he spent an entire decade writing books about how miserable the aftermath made him). What other authors might wish they could rejigger their publishing pasts?
