The Akashic imprint, which I generally love, is putting out a series of shortish texts written by early U.S. presidents that I find verrrrrry interesting. John Adams was so in love with Voltaire, it just makes me sick to think of the current intellectual climate on this side of the pond. Adams is introduced by Neal Pollack, whom, I know, ya either love or hate (I love him, me, being a satire junkie) -- but if you hate him he sounds very little like his usual personae in the intro. I'm about to munch into the Jefferson Bible now -- turns out I'm woefully ignorant about American letters 'round revolutionary time. I still haven't finished Boswell's London Journal... anyhow, I'm going to get even more vague now and just open up the subject, go! go! go!
