You should definitely kill him.

I'd like to kill her. Okay maybe that's harsh, but this book is grating me. I am really, really trying but she's just so self-involved and wrapped up in the trivialities of her emotionally exhausting high school life but I just don't understand why people were so excited by this book. It just proves what everyone knows: high schoolers are trivial and boring, even if they are *vegan* and *bisexual* and other forms of pseudoradical rebelliousness.

What book?

Plus she's, like, seventeen, right? I'm ready to hate her just for that alone.

I tried to push that aside and just focus on the writing and its apparent genius quality, and there is seriously nothing there.
I've been reading some of Sylvia Plath's stuff and it's so striking what talented teenagers are and aren't. Plath was one of those overachieving shows tremendous promise types and so is Trope, supposedly, except that Plath actually did have talent and Trope is little more than hype.
If it was an adult writing this as a teenager, I'd be impressed at how well the author captured the vacuity of teenageness. As it's just a teenager I'm not impressed because she doesn't demonstrate any skill just by ranting.
or am i being unfair? or just overly/underly meta?

I thought that Nick Macdonnel book "twelve" was well written and interesting and maybe covered similar ground. i think he wrote it when he was 17 or something?
