Are proof copies of books valuable to collectors? I saw a proof copy of Danny Wallace's "Yes Man" at a bookshop today.

Some are if they want everything by the writer, and depending how rare they are. I suspect proofs of Danny Wallace aren't going to make anyone's fortune, though.

I bought a proof of Chris Brookmyre's "All Fun and Games Until Someone Loses an Eye" on eBay. It was cheaper than the hard and paperback editions. And is perfectly readable.

I would counsel others never to buy any item on the off chance that it might be far more valuable than the seller is asking, unless you are an expert in the market for that item and know precisely how to dispose of it at a profit.

For some reason people seem to think they will find rare and valuable books in shops that the shopkeeper had no clue was worth a fortune. You may as well spend the money on the lottery instead. Your odds are better.
