I think the only thing I've gained from this book is an ability to spoil Bend It Like Beckham by saying, 'this is the frustration stage now'.

Did it need spoiling?

I quite liked it first time round.

When I first heard the film's title, I was embarrassed, for it, or maybe, for myself.

I have never watched it.

The best bit of the film is when she talks to her posters of Beckham and her parents refer to him as 'this skinhead boy' and 'that baldy man'. I think the title was a deliberate attempt to get some publicity. I mean, I think I read that somewhere. It's not brilliant, but there are enough laughs to keep you going. The DVD has an uncut musical scene at the wedding which is very good indeed. In the film it is intercut with a football match.

I assume (hope) there is new stuff later on in the book.
