Penguin books "GReat Ideas"

OK i just discovered these books and I love them! they are beautifully designed which is fulfils my top criteria, they make you weant to buy them (well most of them). I am reading Orwells "Why I Write" and I am really into. I love having short small books to pick up and carry aorund, especially as my attention span declines.

Is anyone else into these? Are small selected-writings sort of pocket books a good model fro the publishing industry? Any gripes about who they selected for "the canon"?

just interested in your thoughts

i just bought On the Suffering of the World by Arthur Schopenhauer - it is, indeed very lovely but i haven't read it yet.

I have a few of these (niezsche, 'why I am so wise'; rousseau, 'the social contract'; 'the communist manifesto'). they're ok. £3 in fopp and just long enough to read on the 3hr megabus = ideal.

I got given the Hazlitt book, which was pretty good. I think some of the listed books are slightly dubious, particularly the Schopenauer and Ruskin choices. A good idea, though.
