one of those writers i want to own everything by someday. i'm getting there! he wrote a lot.

I've enjoyed many of his short stories and novellas. He had a definite section of society as his subjects: old money east coast families, their lawyers and other hirelings. He probably wrote more realistically about these people than any other contemporary author. No fireworks. No soap operas. Just keen observation and carefully precise prose.

R.I.P. Mr Auchincloss.
