An oft-overlooked aspect of literary life...

I have put some in a carrier bag, ready for taking to the charity shop. Most of them are *from* the charity shop, but one of them is not. It is "Yellow Dog" by Martin Amis.

I remember that one of the last batch to go there was 'Love in the Time of Cholera', a book I like but frankly can get from the library whenever I want.

I remember it because it has a lengthy and personal dedication from an ex-friend written in it, and for a while I thought I shouldn't get rid of it for that reason. But then I thought about the EX aspect of the friend, and how he was a bit of a bastard really and yep, into the carrier bag it goes...

That "Yellow Dog" is really dogging you, isn't it PJ? You should read Ian McEwan's Black Dog instead.

I think I've read that one. What I should really read is Lassie Come Home, assuming it's a book as well as a film.

I also took the Bible (extracts, King James version) because it is a load of sexist claptrap.

Anil's Ghost
Air and Angels
Something or other by Cees Noteboom

I am surprised that Yellow Dog doesn't turn up in our shop much, given the level of dislike. It's perfect charity shop fodder. A book with terrible reviews that people nevertheless want to read but won't pay full price for.
