Been reading more of these this year. Pavese is a companion for life, one of the great, great books.

I haven't read my copy, but Andre Gide's diaries are meant to be his best writing.

The little I have read of Gide's fiction is kinda diaristic...heard many good things about his diaries.

The Assassin's Cloak, an anthology, is also great, and a fine launching point to find more great diaries. Got me hooked on Orwell's, and Joan Wyndham's, among others.
