Publisher's Progress

Forgive my business naivete but certain niche publishers publish a few writers I really like and every few years the writers seem to jump ship and end up at a new publisher. So for a while David Markson and Gilbert Sorrentino were at the Dalkey Archive and Evan S Connell and James Salter were at Counterpoint (or is it Northpoint?) and now everybody seems to be ending up at Shoemaker and Hoard. What happens? The obvious thing- the guy that brought them in strikes out on his own and brings them along?

Did Dalkey run out of money?

I don't think so. They seem to bringing out new titles and getting money from an entity known as the Lannan Foundation. Maybe Gil and Dave got better deals elsewhere. Anyway, Sorrentino is at someplace called Coffee House Press these days. His got another new book out.
