IE what book would "fit" your voice?

Coetzee for me, Youth or Disgrace.

Disgrace doesn't really fit my age, but I think my voice is just deep/cracked enough to pull it off.

Ha this is a good question. I WISH it was The Member of the Wedding or something nice and Scottish like Living Nowhere, but alas most people would probably have me down to do Jane Eyre.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 29 September 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Being Jordan.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 29 September 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

Maybe.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 29 September 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

Something by Laurie Colwin I think. Happy All the Time maybe, though Home Cooking is more likely.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 29 September 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

Now We Are Six for my upper register but would have to choose something else for that smokey-croaky morning voice.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 29 September 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

Probably some kind of monotonous poetry.

Orange (Orange), Thursday, 29 September 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

Has Noddy Holder written any books?

Navek Rednam (Navek Rednam), Thursday, 29 September 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

Adrian Mole, I'm afraid.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 30 September 2005 06:41 (twenty years ago)

On most days, Gidget by Frederick Kohner (honest!). On my more introspective and monotone days, Sylvia Plath. The Bell Jar, probably.

I did do a recording of my own book of poetry, In Willy's House, with a fellow who has a fantastic voice reading alternately. It was great fun. We also did a previous book called Downwind Toward Night. One of my sons, who was about 10 at the time, also read mine.

It would probably be something by one of the Brontes, I'd love to be able to do justice to The Famous Five or Malory Towers books though, but I my accent is far too northern to be able to talk about, hockey sticks, lacrosse, or lashing of ginger beer.

Matt once mentioned his ideal Gentlemans Club, which would have me (and several other girls) reading out knitting patterns.

My first thought was The Irish RM, but the Major is the narrator, and it's really just the Flurry Knox/Slipper bits that I could do.
