an ilb thread for ben ehrenreich's novel ETHER

it sounds like the sort of book that i am immediately suspicious and disdainful towards, full of pseudoclever ideas abt 'what its about' or coming off like grad student ligotti or w/e but this book is really good? and beautifully written? and full of actuallyclever ideas abt 'what is abt'?

it hardly needs its own thread but maybe lots of people will read this book and we can talk about it otherwise i will just post things i think abt

got nothing but he writes for the LRB i think.

see if you had nomintaed this for the book group and won it would have been the only thing on our minds for a week or two.

well tbf its only just come out so it would be kinda a dick move to nominate it

also im avoiding reading any of his other writing cuz i dont want to ruin my good feelings abt this book tbh
