Eighty-two. A worthwhile life. I didn't care for much of her late seventies work but I'll always treasure the tension between formalism and hysteria in the pre-Diving into the Wreck work and those marvelous essays, like the definitive one on Emily Dickinson.

My parents had a copy of "Diving Into the Wreck," and when I was a little kid I tried to read it once because I thought it was about treasure diving.
