Book about Africa

Anyone know a good source of books about African history? Currently reading Martin Meredith's "The Fate of Africa" but would like something that goes back further. Wouldn't even mind ancient history. Im finding that looking up stuff about Africa on the internet is a gateway to Batshit Mutherfucking Crazy Town

Would this interest include the parts of Africa that border the mediterranean, or just Africa in and below the Sahara?

Kind of want to be facetious and recommend this.

Ya not really zeroing in on any particular region just yet, i guess something broad-based that talks about the major players/events that have shaped africa over the years. Something specific is great too if it can shed light on the rest. Always love a good biography.

xp emily, haha! sounds fun but im pretty hesitant to pick up novels unfortunately

This isn't exactly history, and it's not exactly about Africa, but Asia is close to Africa.

haven't read it yet, but this has been on my to-read pile for a while: http://www.amazon.com/Africa-Biography-Continent-John-Reader/dp/067973869X/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2Z349HZ9ULAOO&coliid=IRPQTVO7LAM9R

Just about Congo but I can recommend Adam Hochschild's "King Leopold's Ghost."
