Rabindranath Tagore - C or D, s&d

No, I don't really know that much about him, but I've been reading a Penguin anthology of his short stories (which I picked up randomly because 1- weird name! and 2- hey, it's a penguin classic), and enjoying it immensley. I gather he is quite an important figure - "the grand master of Bengali culture" - and all that, but both ILE and ILB searches don't bring up much discussion.

Sorry I don't have any particular insights to start this thread with, but does anyone wanna talk Tagore?

Not really, but his non-fiction book Sadhana is quite readable, and has a lot of "Emersonian" moments. (I put it in scare quotes because of Emerson's debt to Indian philosophy one way or another.)

Also, Yeats' intro. to Gitanjaliis quite interesting, though I never really got much out of Gitanjali itself.

Here's Gitanjali along with Yeats' intro: http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/tagore/gitnjali.htm

(Very difficult to find: first Google hit searching on "Gitanjali")
