Mafia books: s/d

I just finished Billy Bathgate* and it left a hunger for more mob-related stuff. Obviously whatever else I read is not going to measure up to Doctorow writing-wise, but are there any good, entertaining, well-written non-ficion books on the mob out there?

*From what I can tell, Bathgate is probably historically pretty inaccurate anyway.

Dammit, I didn't see the "non-fiction" part.
Oh well, I'll nevertheless throw in a recommendation for "The Day of the Owl" by Leonardo Sciascia, even though it IS fiction.

As scary as these things tend to be, you might want to give this Amazon.com Listmania! entry a look: Mobbed up

Wiseguy! Come on.

And you have GOT to read 'the Outfit'. It's highly readable, and it's one of the best starting points.

I second all of these, and suggest Sciascia hardly counts as fiction. Sha-sha- it's nice to say, isn't it. Also interesting are 'The Dark Heart of Italy' by Tobias Jones and John Dickie's straightforward 'Cosa Nostra',
But 'The Honoured Society' by Norman Lewis (and 'Naples '44', though that's a rather different work) easily match Doctorow for style. Lewis is a brilliant and underrated writer.
