I tend to rely on my browser's turning a viste3d link pink/the "new posts" unfilled dot. So when the site gets rebooted and they all clear, Im completely lost haha.

There was a while where pplains wasn't on 77 yet, and I'd log in as Pleasant Plains to check in. Fuck, those bookmarks stacked up fast.

Because now, every time I remove my cookies and forget to exclude ilxor's cookie, I have to go "i want to change the way the site looks" again after I log back in. I think I remember I didn't always have to do that?

Hey Stan, if I remember rightly, and it is a few years ago now I wrote this stuff, I made the stylesheet be stored in a cookie, instead of most of your preferences, which are stored in the database.

This was so that people could set themselves up with one stylesheet at work and another at home. They might want to be more inconspicuous at work.

None of the software has changed in the past few years except what this thread is talking about.

(Oh to fully answer, I think there was a day back in the beginning where I did store it in the database - it's still in there; it's just not used, but it was probably in 2007 now).

I am trying to persevere with nuBookmarks and am becoming used to it. Most of the problems are down to my own impatience and random clicking that there's no need for.

Autumn, if I ever finish the big raft of stuff I have been looking at recently, the Cape of Good Hope will be the first to hear about it. But unfortunately, I developed ILX but not Zing, stet did that, so you'll have to chase him.

If you disable javascript for ilx then you don't see the full twitter embeds, only the text.

Whoa I only just noticed the "Show Images (and other embedded media, like videos and Tweets)" option in Preferences.

i have both javascript and ilx embeds enabled and always get only the blue text box, best of both worlds

the ilx way of handling twitter embeds is by far the best i've seen: text content is preserved even if the tweet is deleted without requiring posters to manually copy-paste it, and the readers don't connect to twitter servers at all unless they want to look at the media.

if bluesky embeds are allowed, please make them work the same if at all possible.

if you're using firefox, globally block twitter.com with uBO/umatrix, and configure libredirect to use xcancel for twitter links

this way you get the benefits of ilx's blue box text embeds and if you want to look at the linked media you can click the links and be redirected to the xcancel version

yeah, my suggestion was based on the embeds being embeds and not realising that stet had done something cleverer with them, copying them.

i do often click through though - images off - so libredirect could be handy, thanks

if your twitter embeds do not look like ilx quotes, then they are normal embeds and you're effectively browsing twitter. that happens only if all of the following are true:

1. embeds/images enabled in ilx prefs
2. javascript for ilxor.com allowed in browser
3. twitter.com allowed by the browser content blocker

if any one of the above is not true, twitter embeds are replaced by

ILX blue box text quotes and twitter hosted media is replaced by URLs
