i get so bogged down with my unread bookmarks i rarely look at SNA :(
― ⚓ (gr8080), Thursday, 2 February 2012 02:10 (twelve years ago) link
I tend to rely on my browser's turning a viste3d link pink/the "new posts" unfilled dot. So when the site gets rebooted and they all clear, Im completely lost haha.

One of a few reasons why I changed my name!
There was a while where pplains wasn't on 77 yet, and I'd log in as Pleasant Plains to check in. Fuck, those bookmarks stacked up fast.

Check out the blue cursor on the side to give you an idea of how far up it goes.

It's kinda like Portal or something. Or those parts in Pitfall II when you'd die and your character would literally be taken all the way back to the beginning.

I'm sorry markers, but I've had a couple days to try it out and I tried looking at it in various ways and trying to adjust, but really I just hate it.

― Steamtable Willie (WmC), Thursday, 2 February 2012 19:54 (twelve years ago) link
Can I just... I have another question - didn't ILX use to remember your css choice when you logged out?
Because now, every time I remove my cookies and forget to exclude ilxor's cookie, I have to go "i want to change the way the site looks" again after I log back in. I think I remember I didn't always have to do that?
― StanM, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:47 (twelve years ago) link
Hey Stan, if I remember rightly, and it is a few years ago now I wrote this stuff, I made the stylesheet be stored in a cookie, instead of most of your preferences, which are stored in the database.
This was so that people could set themselves up with one stylesheet at work and another at home. They might want to be more inconspicuous at work.
None of the software has changed in the past few years except what this thread is talking about.
― Keith, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:51 (twelve years ago) link
(Oh to fully answer, I think there was a day back in the beginning where I did store it in the database - it's still in there; it's just not used, but it was probably in 2007 now).
― Keith, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:52 (twelve years ago) link
I am trying to persevere with nuBookmarks and am becoming used to it. Most of the problems are down to my own impatience and random clicking that there's no need for.
― The Preferenceville Horror (onimo), Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:53 (twelve years ago) link
Ok, thanks, Keith. No problem, this way I check out another stylesheet by accident once in a while :-)
― StanM, Thursday, 2 February 2012 20:58 (twelve years ago) link
hi keith, while we've got you, stet asked me to ask you to disable this "flag post" function, says thanks in advance

btw the bookmark thing is still doing the thing where it goes to the top of the page
also zing doesn't work ON IPAD but stet said you would release that tomorrow so thanks

Autumn, if I ever finish the big raft of stuff I have been looking at recently, the Cape of Good Hope will be the first to hear about it. But unfortunately, I developed ILX but not Zing, stet did that, so you'll have to chase him.

no idea what bluesky looks like or how posts etc there work but if we could all just agree now not to render links from there like we do with twitter it would imo be good
twitter dumping killer ilx (not really but a bit)
― tuah dé danann (darraghmac), Friday, 15 November 2024 11:10 (three days ago) link
would be nice if the twitter embeds could work via nitter.poast or xcancel or sutin.
― koogs, Friday, 15 November 2024 11:26 (three days ago) link
why? the thing I like about the current setup is the post text remains even if the post is deleted on X
― stet, Saturday, 16 November 2024 20:40 (two days ago) link
and yes I was looking at allowing Bluesky username auth for here
― stet, Saturday, 16 November 2024 20:41 (two days ago) link
embeds too, sorry
the thing I like about the current setup is the post text remains even if the post is deleted on X

otm very nice implementation
― lag∞n, Saturday, 16 November 2024 20:59 (two days ago) link
If you disable javascript for ilx then you don't see the full twitter embeds, only the text.
― Kim Kimberly, Saturday, 16 November 2024 21:08 (two days ago) link
Whoa I only just noticed the "Show Images (and other embedded media, like videos and Tweets)" option in Preferences.
― Kim Kimberly, Saturday, 16 November 2024 21:12 (two days ago) link
i have both javascript and ilx embeds enabled and always get only the blue text box, best of both worlds
the ilx way of handling twitter embeds is by far the best i've seen: text content is preserved even if the tweet is deleted without requiring posters to manually copy-paste it, and the readers don't connect to twitter servers at all unless they want to look at the media.
if bluesky embeds are allowed, please make them work the same if at all possible.

if you're using firefox, globally block twitter.com with uBO/umatrix, and configure libredirect to use xcancel for twitter links
this way you get the benefits of ilx's blue box text embeds and if you want to look at the linked media you can click the links and be redirected to the xcancel version
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/
― chihuahuau, Saturday, 16 November 2024 21:46 (two days ago) link
yeah, my suggestion was based on the embeds being embeds and not realising that stet had done something cleverer with them, copying them.
i do often click through though - images off - so libredirect could be handy, thanks
― koogs, Sunday, 17 November 2024 04:16 (yesterday) link
if your twitter embeds do not look like ilx quotes, then they are normal embeds and you're effectively browsing twitter. that happens only if all of the following are true:
1. embeds/images enabled in ilx prefs2. javascript for ilxor.com allowed in browser3. twitter.com allowed by the browser content blocker
if any one of the above is not true, twitter embeds are replaced by
ILX blue box text quotes and twitter hosted media is replaced by URLs
