Shakey Mo might not be aware of goddamn numbers in the titles of things or hipsters who don't believe the beatles are popular.

omg, you were actually part of that initial conversation and you didn't even know that there was an epic spin-off thread:

Oh the thread did get deleted!
― t. s. idiot (loves laboured breathing), Thursday, 12 July 2012 11:15 (thirteen years ago)
Shaky, a couple things:
1) I don't know the percentage of ILX on 77 now, but surely these days the onus of elitism falls on the holdouts
2) Yoi started a thread about another poster in ILE, one with a very public profile, one who had taken great pains to keep demarcations between his public & ILX selves separate, one who is usually the first to object whenever other posters are singled out with their own threads. Despite all this, he took the thread with good humor, and only asked that it be moved to 77 so he could have the privacy to talk freely about w/e he was going to say, considering he had a wikipedia troll who continuously posted his ILX username on his page.. And instead of good-naturedly holding your nose & taking the plunge,--considering that it was on 77 at behest of the person you started it about--you claimed propietary right and had it deleted in a huff. Do you see how that might not be, like, totally cool
― t. s. idiot (loves laboured breathing), Thursday, 12 July 2012 11:29 (thirteen years ago)
fwiw I didn't know that about his wikipedia troll. tbh I have like zero knowledge of his non-ILX-related activities. I had figured since the thread was exclusively about things he's posted on ILM, and nothing more, that it probably wouldn't be a big deal - it was simply an expression of my ongoing fascination with where our tastes both diverge and overlap and it was meant it good humor. I didn't know he was skittish about it - and he's entirely within his rights to ask that the thread be moved/modified/deleted - but I was completely unaware of his feelings about it and the thread just disappeared. which, from my POV, was fairly irritating. (If aero expressed his concerns on the thread or ILX-mailed me or something, I missed it). I'm sorry if I've inconvenienced ua in anyway and I'd be happy to let him know that. nothing but love and respect for him, he is a bro.
That being said, I feel I'm entirely within my rights to ask for a thread I started to be deleted, rather than to have it continue in a venue I have no interest in participating in.

what difference does it make to you whether it carries on somewhere you can't see, or gets deleted?

What about your office? Can anyone wander over to your desk from the street?
Okay, enough with the analogies. You're a quality poster, but when you throw around words like "elite" to describe 77, it really sounds like you don't quite get the gist of why that board exists. You don't have to gain entrance if you don't want it, but it seems more of a stubborn action to take than one that has any merit.
― pplains, Thursday, 12 July 2012 15:54 (thirteen years ago)

considering it existed for some time (a couple years?) before I even heard about it, forgive me if my initial impressions die hard

but yeah just in principle I don't like things on the internet that require me to register/ask permission and I avoid them like the plague for the most part
you have to register for ilx

There was an ADMIN thread at the top of SNA for like a week only a month or so into the board's existence. Granted that thread was about how people were talking behind one another's back on 77, but times have changed!
― coat news for people who love boat shoes (how's life), Thursday, 12 July 2012 16:10 (thirteen years ago)
but yeah I can count on one hand the number of internet services I have registered for, and at least 2 of them are things I never use/only created so I could register for something else
There was an ADMIN thread at the top of SNA for like a week only a month or so into the board's existence.
I tend to ignore ADMIN and ILX meta threads because they're so annoying and jampacked full of people sniping at each other over imagined/inconsequential personal snipes and also I tend not to care too much about the technical stuff that goes on in the background of this site.
Granted that thread was about how people were talking behind one another's back on 77, but times have changed!
how very reassuring

I'd say "Are you asking to be added to that board? It's unclear."
PP, you often engage in meta threads with hypotheticals, metaphors and extremely vague expressions of dissatisfaction. It's hard to know what point you're trying to make, or if you have one.

I'll amend that then -- I don't think I've ever added anyone who didn't specifically request it, apologies if I did, and I definitely wouldn't do it again.
― Neil Jung (WmC), Thursday, 12 July 2012 16:56 (thirteen years ago)
everyone used to be able to add people not just mods is the thing
― lag∞n, Thursday, 12 July 2012 16:57 (thirteen years ago)
Oh that's right, I'd totally forgotten that. I hadn't been modding long when that was ended, iirc.
― Neil Jung (WmC), Thursday, 12 July 2012 16:59 (thirteen years ago)
• Shakey's complaints that 77 is elite is inaccurate.• His thoughts on 77 are likely inaccurate because he has no access.• He doesn't want to have to make a request or ask a mod to go in. • There's no question he deserves access, so what if he didn't have to ask.
I'm 99% satisfied with ILX (FREE DOM.) I'm not sure what other vague expressions of dissatisfaction you're remembering, but what if I don't really have a point betcha didn't even think of that one huh?
― pplains, Thursday, 12 July 2012 17:11 (thirteen years ago)
it may no longer be elitist in its present form, but that doesn't mean I approve of it. I wouldn't exactly be rushing to join a country club that used to exclude Jews just cuz they were finally forced to, knowhutimean?

bro GET OVER IT
― k3vin k., Thursday, 12 July 2012 17:29 (thirteen years ago)
- the only ways to know if someone is a regular is either by their posting history or through recognition by another - people change accounts so there is no algorithmic way to do it by post history by the system - very few people who have requested access are denied, if any
― hot sauce delivery device (mh), Thursday, 12 July 2012 17:40 (thirteen years ago)
I guess the main point is that it's perfectly fine if you don't want access, but acting like you're an anti-elitist or some sort of egalitarian is disingenuous. You just want to use ilx as a completely-public board where all interactions happen in that space. That's fine.
― hot sauce delivery device (mh), Thursday, 12 July 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)
tbrr I am not upset about this, 99% of the time I don't even think about 77, it's all out of sight/out of mind and I don't care. this is the first time something I posted got moved there and I wanted to know what was up. that is all.
