i'm not worked up; I am just more than a little tired of deej's petty tyrant shit. It's particularly lame as it bars the dreaded CASUAL RAP FAN from even finding the rap thread! The lack of the words "rap" or "hip hop" in the title is completely intentional.

I read all the genre threads; this is the only genre where one monkey thinks he makes the whole show run and will actually pout and try to shut down the thread if he doesn't get his way. it's embarrassing.

I've long thought that the ilx 2.0 tradition of obscuring rap threads didn't go far enough in titular obscurantist brinksmanship. like on Jan 1st I'd call my rap thread "rainbow grills" and call it a day.

2 more observations. 1. this really should've happened in, like, 2011, and ilx has shown incredible restraint that it doesn't happen every year. 2. I know t-shirt is barely in the rearview mirror but I truly thought deej had outgrown this shit.

I 100% support clowning on Deej when he gets like this but multiple threads with dumb titles kind of undercuts Forks's claim to be doing it for all the poor posters who otherwise can't access the rap thread.

I think each of the mods, acting independently of one another, ought to lock whichever two of the three threads they think most eligible for locking, regardless of which two threads have already been locked.

context:

- no regular rap thread poster besides forks thinks rap thread should be split in 2. his own motivations, besides a vague animosity towards deej, are unclear to me. i personally think forks is a great guy who does a lot for the board (updating dozens of spotify playlists out of pure generosity). just wish he would not try to split my favourite rolling genre thread in two for no apparent reason, as it makes it very confusing to follow!

- decade+ long tradition of naming rap threads riffing on trends in 'lcd rap' is good-natured fun, bickering over particulars of the name in early january a part of the tradition. this has never resulted in a split before. the names speak to posters' simple pleasure in trendwatching, as well as a more trad 'popist' critical pov that is reluctant to dismiss 'low' forms of the genre out of hand

- despite naming convention, it's well-known that music posted in the threads is not exclusive to street rap (as a scroll through any years' thread would immediately confirm), and the supposed bias towards street rap is a misrepresentation. as in any rolling genre thread, links to music will elicit opinions and critical perspectives. imo this is a feature not a bug!

in conclusion, please lock the thread. thanks <3

i don't have any beefs. and to my knowledge, there is no beef. if there is it exists solely in the mind of one person? it's perfectly natural for coordination failures to have solutions like this, nothing 'baby' about it imo

the most frustrating thing about this is how it's created the perception of some rift that isn't actually there.

it'd be fun if there were 315 rap threads but only one was the real rap thread and you had to decipher clues to figure out which one that was

I love the music opinions in those threads but the secondary attraction has always been one person making a statement about how people perceive the music, another person wondering where that post even came from, and then bickering over _stances_ about a topic that was never even discussed

Feel like there is more imagined drama in the rolling rap threads than there actually is. Usually it's just cool music posts with the occasional digression about some soundcloud rapper some folks think is overrated and others don't. This weird multi-thread spat is really odd to me.
