Petition to change I Love Cooking to The Cheese Board

On the "Post a controversial opinion" thread (of all places) the idea was raised to change the rarely-used board I Love Cooking to The Cheese Board, a new sub-board focused on food generally rather just on cooking. I would like to pose this request formally to the moderators.

i saw some cheese balls like that but they had flamin hot dust on them and they were called HOT BALLS

In Gloucester, mass. a few years back a mate of mine wouldn't pass that tub of cheese balls and insisted on finishing them himself.

Honestly, any boards that have very little traffic (some threshold like under _ _ posts a month) should be removed/merged. Maybe I should've posted that under controversial opinion.

Even vegans/veg should understand the aesthetic. They make very good vegan cheese boards (cashews yum!) nowadays. I thought the Cheese Board name was pretty much opening up the board to talking about food in general and not necessarily only recipes. It doesn't really fucking matter as long as more people use it.

the board description is fine and is not a euphemism, i mean who even looks at board descriptions. it's just that it's a dumb pun (speaking charitably) and if the intent is to direct ilx general food threads there i am not in favor of that.

It was a joke about the protein in cheese

all boards should basically consist of one or two rolling threads that last for five years each and have only a few regular posters.

I'll try to come back tomorrow with some constructive commentary. it's been a long week.

People don't enjoy the food threads?? I'm mystified by this. That thread about whether or not a hot dog is a sandwich is among the funniest ie best threads i've ever read here. Rolling food lab is good also. I always enjoy the food threads. When i notice them, anyway.

leave the sub boards as they are, it helps sort stuff out in the SNA era (i.e. I can block NFL threadz)

I changed the board name in a fit of enthusiasm because the requests were the first thing I saw when I woke up and I presumed that any controversy had been hashed out elsewhere (such as on I Love Cooking itself, which I don't read). I didn't realize that it was a pun. As a non-reader of ILC, I don't care either way what it's named or what it does. So once the people who have an interest in food topics have hashed everything out, we can absolutely change it back to I Love Cooking or change it forward to a newer and even better name.

In the past, I've been in favor of moving things off of ILE and into subboards. I was excited about the prospects for The Church when it started. I was a vocal propenent of giving all the soccer fans their own home far away from my eyes. And as recently as last week, I was seconding someone who suggested a separate I Love Politics board to get all the Brexit and Trump threads off of ILE. I Love Football has thrived on its own. The Church kinda didn't. Non-cooking food threads regularly get lots of participation on ILE. Will moving these discussions to a subboard improve them?

I agree with imago though, that change can be invigorating. So I'm eager to see where this goes.

As a non-reader of ILC, I don't care either way what it's named or what it does.

mark otm, you can set what boards to view in preferences, but if you want to see just topical threads, go to the board

I tend to have SNA showing everything other than ILM so my music browsing is just music. I’ve also excluded 77 from it in the past so I have that context switch to remember “this is private stuff”

everything else is just a good mix. more boards, I say!

Active sub-boards are good things because it’s easier to find threads that haven’t been updated in the last 48 hours or so that way. On Zing especially, I really enjoy the fact that ILS, ILG, etc can be visited separately and you can dig up threads from months ago and revive. Way better than search tbqh.

If moving threads wasn’t such a guaranteed means to fuck up the database and break links, I would gladly volunteer my time to help balkanize ILE into topic subboards if for no other purpose than to visit weeks-old food and movie threads on a whim.
