ILX won't let me register

or more specifically, although it clearly has my e-mail address in the database, it won't send me the reset password code. i would just create a new login but i'd prefer not to have to create a whole new e-mail address just to login to ILX. can anyone help or am i too hopeless to deserve to post?

(see i can't even post here -- it won't let me! wah!)

what do you mean, "it won't send me the reset password code"? could it be a spamfilter issue?

Sending emails...

if you got this I think the server sendmail function is working?

ok, i just reset my email address to reflect my shiny new gmail account - wardfowler@googlemail.com - but no new password has been sent to it, and so now I can't log in under my regular Ward Fowler user name

i know this is a pain in the arse, but if any mod can help i wld appreciate - i like the ward fowler name and dont want to lose it

no offence like, but i am CONVINCED that this must be spam filtering. every time i bother to use the "forgotten" password on someone's account bcc'ing my own yahoo e-mail address the e-mail appears. never had a failure. (i did this with mitya above)

there is currently an issue with usernames that contain single quotes and backslashes. MUST stop people registering with those.

wward i will forward you the e-mail from the ilx.mods g-mail account IF you say right now that you will come back here soon and say how it worked out. and it would help to know your username (tho i should be able to get it from that gmail addy)

by "forgotten" password, i meant the "forgotten your password?" link - there was no sarcasm intended!

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:26 (twenty years ago)

er i found yr account and you have a private e-mail address (a tiscali address) set up. the password e-mails go to the private e-mail addy if you set one up

thanks alan i will check this out, im afraid i am not v. gd w/ computers

fwiw, i think this is the first time i've made a moderator request in over five years of ILX usage

wardy f, Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:32 (twenty years ago)

ok i have just checked and there's nothing in my tiscali inbox or my gmail inbox

wardo, Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:34 (twenty years ago)

ok i just did the "forgotten password" trick to both of your accounts. and the bcc's have arrived in my yahoo account already. check yr accounts now.

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:37 (twenty years ago)

(i mean "forgotten login" each time don't I)

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:38 (twenty years ago)

thanks alan that has totally done the trick, you've been a gd shepherd to a v. lost lamb

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:44 (twenty years ago)

cheers, but i didn't do anything special :-(

just clicked the "forgotten login" and followed the instructions to send a reset code to user "Ward Fowler" - in this case to both public and private addresses. just in case. did you get e-mails to both accounts.

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:47 (twenty years ago)

it has only turned up in the gmail inbox so far, but im not sure that tiscali (private) is the most reliable in terms of speedy delivery
