i vote 'yay' only cos it's broken down into sniping more than productive discussion over hte last few years. but I speak for only me.

it's a gripe thread, a peeve-a-torium by nature. i don't personally care if it dies in a fire but it has certainly never contained productive discussion.

Not sure what I think tbh (I dislike the thread in general but is that grounds for a lock?), but I did search for "phrases" on ILX earlier today and boy you would need to a lot of locking

Thread should be locked just on the basis of being shit. However, on the basis of people arguing? Did we learn nothing about nurturing simmering resentments? Aren’t the clusterfuck threads for this exact purpose? Basically not really getting “this thread is bad because people are arguing there, therefore lock it” as an argument.

Also, if people don’t like threads descending into petty beef…stop replying and keeping the thread active? You can’t have it both ways.

thread isn't bad because people are arguing, because that's the point of threads. it's that 'arguing' seems to be now be giving people scarlet letters to wear if they choose the wrong side

I like the thread, excepting the current issues.

Keep the thread, people have got to spar every now and then.

Lock the "posts you had second thoughts about" thread. Sparring should be done face to face to deter against the aforementioned simmering resentments. It's both cowardly and bad manners to post your "zings" in that thread (yeah i know its a 50/50 zing to everything else ratio). If you don't have the spine to say your thoughts to someone's directly, don't say them at all

This thread functions much better as an indirect zing repository.
