i'll ask politely, why not?

JW (ex machina), Monday, 22 May 2006 22:20 (nineteen years ago)

haha. good one! but sadly, no. i have not the power.

really though, what is happening that you guys think a site admin is messing with things? did something actually happen?

Kim (Kim), Monday, 22 May 2006 22:45 (nineteen years ago)

No they just like to break out the whambulance.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 22 May 2006 22:55 (nineteen years ago)

Groke?? whois

guess papers (eman), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

tom ewing.

I have no idea what this is about, what exactly is happening?

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

since there are many more admin on the noise board than on the rest of ILX is in not more likely to be one of them?

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

ok i dunno whether you can tell whether it's an ilx admin or a noise admin who's doing this (since i don't know the details) but since the noise board itself, & more specifically the granting of admin privileges to anyone who wants them, seems like an exercise in anarchy this seems inevitable, no?

of course the whining is inevitable too.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

Well, here's the thing. We've been asking for the admin log to keep track of permission *removal* acts like people being stripped of admin status or threads being unlocked.

Of course, we've been ignored.

JW (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

so what, because the admins haven't had time to do a fix, it means they're deliberately messing with you? thing is, you obviously don't even think that. you're just making noise until you get what you want. crude but effective i guess. it'd be nice if you guys stopped picking out Zac specifically for this though. the guy is working about 80 hours a week for the next few months.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

seriously if anyone does have the time, i don't see why this feature shouldn't exist.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

I have no idea what this is about, what exactly is happening?

It appears that person or persons unknown are changing admin privs, who is banned, & the board being locked to unreg users on the noise board. This has been over the last couple of weeks?

I agree w/jed about the anarchy thing, & also agree w/jon about the extra function on the admin log. Only andrew, alan or noodles could add this, though.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

Yea, seriously... it's like 2 lines of cut and paste code

JW (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

pash, a few of the things i have noticed have been things only site-wide admins can change. hence the thread to begin with. if it was just other noize admins fucking around, well no big deal.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

which things? (email if you like) I haven't been paying full attention to it, I must admit, & had figured up till now that it was another noise boarder w/admin powers yanking jon's chain for lulz.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

So what are these "things only site-wide admins can change" hstencil?

As far as I know, the only difference is the ability to move a thread from board to board and ban an IP. I'm pretty sure I've not done either in 2006.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

revoking privs would be the other one you're conveniently forgetting.

guess papers (eman), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

Any one with "revoke" can do that.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

This is true. Anyone with the "revoke" permission can remove another user's privs. The "administer board" page has a checkbox, with a note that says:

"Allow user to revoke other administrator's privileges (NB including your own, give out very carefully). This also enables all priveleges and essentially makes the user a board owner."

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

jon is usually the only one that has revoke privs.

tehresa (tehresa), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 15:12 (nineteen years ago)

jon is usually the only one that has revoke privs.

dingdingding! hence this thread

emon, Tuesday, 23 May 2006 17:44 (nineteen years ago)

unless hstencil is referring to something else

emon, Tuesday, 23 May 2006 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

WHO KEEPS UNBANNING JAYMC THO!!!

JW (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 18:07 (nineteen years ago)

hstencil is referring to something else. He is referring to the fact that removing lock privileges (ie unbanning) is not logged in the admin log. This action can be performed by any board admin, whether they have the 'revoke' flag or not.

I don't think anyone with the ability to implement this feature has the required time and inclination to do so, hence much JW frustration.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 05:52 (nineteen years ago)

no, that's not what i'm referring to, exactly.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

Holy fuk - I've been unbanned! The persons responsable for this must be held accountable!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

Quick, use your hostile Canadian javascript skillz!

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 25 May 2006 00:37 (nineteen years ago)

So hstencil, what exactly are you referring to?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 25 May 2006 01:00 (nineteen years ago)

Read what andrew just wrote, MORON

JW (ex machina), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

And then afer all that read what hstencil wrote after Andrew, NUM NUTS.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

(Hstencil is dumb.)

JW (ex machina), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

thanks jon!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 13:46 (nineteen years ago)
