how do I alter my (displayed) email to filter spam?

all these other folks on this board have cool anti-spam all-caps thingies in their emails, e.g. ilxor@DOWNSPAMDOWNgmail.com.

when I tried this, it fucked up my login so badly that I had to get an entirely new one. I guess including a private email isn't enough - I thought my reset password would be sent to the private email but it never arrived.

so mods, please enlighten me on how this trick works. I keep posting my real email by accident (by forgetting to edit the info in the post before hitting send) and would rather change it once and for all as described above. so how can I do that and actually receive my password reset?

create a new private email address (the real address) while changing the displayed email address to a fake one

that's what I tried, and I never got my password reset. Now I'm afraid to try it again, but I guess I'll see.

the password reset is notorious. your email address is only visible when logged in so robots can't touch it.

I got my password reset code about four days after I actually made the changes. it might still be on the way!
