abandoned ILX boards

At what point do they get removed? some of them eg I Rate Everything + tapexchange seem to now be the sole province of trolls/spammers.

spectra (spectra), Thursday, 9 November 2006 11:38 (eighteen years ago)

Nothing has been deleted recently, apart from "the Aja/Dante board", and "I Love Writing". A year or two ago, it was possible for anyone to start a new board, and there were loads of boards with names like "the pointless proliferation of new boards". I think Andrew deleted all the dead boards quite a while ago.

The most recent board is "idiot thread repository", which is board no.103. ILE is board 1, ILM board 2 and so on. There's a lot of gaps.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 9 November 2006 13:25 (eighteen years ago)

hay fuck u

am0n (am0n), Thursday, 9 November 2006 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

i'm wanting an I Love Football board again now, with all old ILE threads transferred there. even a separate I Love TV & Film board appeals sometimes.

I List Music board separate from I Love Music would be funny but might render ILM a DESERT after a few more months.

2 american 4 u (blueski), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

Archive.org may fill in gaps

roc u like a § (ex machina), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

I got the 3 deleted boards in italics from archive.org. Some super-anal part of my brain wants to know what all the missing ones are, even though they're all probably just dumb parody boards w/about three posts each in them.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

I think Andrew deleted all the dead boards quite a while ago.

I think it needs another sweep... maybe asking at the wasteland boards first just to make sure if anyone still has an interest in them (and if so perhaps they should be prompted to do something about it).

spectra (spectra), Thursday, 9 November 2006 16:06 (eighteen years ago)

why would they need another sweep? there are worthwhile threads buried in there. and if a board is active just leave it alone and if a board's inactive it's not really taking up much space, is it? what would be the point? and i like how a board can come back from the dead. look at IRE:

2006
August (80)
July (45)
June (36)
May (10)
April (4)
February (3)
January (0)

maybe hella cricketers will come out of the woodwork one day and won't we be happy then that we never deleted that board.

THANKIG U. (jergins), Thursday, 9 November 2006 17:52 (eighteen years ago)

I Love T-shirts ???

THANKIG U. (jergins), Thursday, 9 November 2006 17:53 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, I know! I don't remember that one at all.

why would they need another sweep? there are worthwhile threads buried in there. and if a board is active just leave it alone and if a board's inactive it's not really taking up much space, is it? what would be the point?

Yeah, I agree with this.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 9 November 2006 18:03 (eighteen years ago)

as with so many other facets of this board, the expansion and contraction can only remind me of the universe

THANKIG U. (jergins), Thursday, 9 November 2006 18:09 (eighteen years ago)

You guys should lock abandoned board to unreg tho

roc u like a § (ex machina), Thursday, 9 November 2006 18:25 (eighteen years ago)

I have done a few, actually. There was a thread on "ask Dr Freud" that had about 600 spam messages on it!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 9 November 2006 18:28 (eighteen years ago)

i rate everything is the best part of ilx right now!

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Thursday, 9 November 2006 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

yeas please don't delete IRE!

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 9 November 2006 19:41 (eighteen years ago)

They can't delete it, they need their MySpace password to do that.

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 9 November 2006 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

IRE used to be where all the sheepfuxors hung out wasn't it? Di never comes by anymore tho :(

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 9 November 2006 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

it got taken over by spammers and is now the central hub of the guess papers industry

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Thursday, 9 November 2006 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

It's not spam! It's people in dire need of our care and help.

stet (stet), Friday, 10 November 2006 02:33 (eighteen years ago)

am0n (am0n), Friday, 10 November 2006 03:09 (eighteen years ago)

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 10 November 2006 04:04 (eighteen years ago)

who is spectra anyway?

A. Lingbert (A. Lingbert), Friday, 10 November 2006 06:30 (eighteen years ago)

long standing poster from nz/melb

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Friday, 10 November 2006 06:32 (eighteen years ago)

why does it matter? i don't really see anything terribly controversial in the original question, perhaps besides referring to the IRE squatters as spammers and trolls

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Friday, 10 November 2006 06:33 (eighteen years ago)

personally i quite like that IRE hasn't died completely even if its original purpose has been lost to the ages

I started "I Love Shopping" back in the day.

It could have been huge.

It wasn't.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 10 November 2006 11:34 (eighteen years ago)

This page is your friend, Pash!

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 10 November 2006 11:36 (eighteen years ago)

This really should be on ILE!

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 10 November 2006 11:38 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, Mark. (I put p3r.net into archive.org, didn't get anywhere near as many hits)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 10 November 2006 11:58 (eighteen years ago)

Blimey, everything's gone italic!

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 10 November 2006 12:14 (eighteen years ago)

fixed (added a few to the list as well)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 10 November 2006 12:15 (eighteen years ago)

It's not fixed (I think it's around 35 - I Love Film which is italicised)

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 10 November 2006 12:28 (eighteen years ago)

31 - Play with me! (deleted)

I started this! It was a "be in my band" board. Only me and dave q ever posted to it I think.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 10 November 2006 13:00 (eighteen years ago)

So, not a Mary Millington board then?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 10 November 2006 13:28 (eighteen years ago)

i'm sure tapexchange could be turned into one

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Friday, 10 November 2006 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

Ha, I think I'm going to get the lot here:

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 10 November 2006 13:38 (eighteen years ago)

That's too awesome a piece of work to just live here.

I'm starting a thread in it's honour on ILE! (Where list threads are not banned!)

Oh, and shame on you! Who's the person who's not here thesedays that always posted about Sleeper? Hmm?

xpost Oh, should I wait a bit? Ach, no.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 10 November 2006 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

roffles @ Sebastien's Self Emancipation board

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 10 November 2006 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

héhé. yes. there was a reasonably popular anarchist board on greenspun so I thought it could be interesting to create a similar one here, an "alternative memetic beacon" or something, a place to focus on political philosophy, participatory economy, politic and social struggles, media, "Empire" and "Multitude" globalization, basic income guarantee, politics of minorities, net activism and other queeries.
