but will the new ilx look like this?

sorry if this has already been answered

friday on the porch (lfam), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

mine looks different than this

PappaWheelie MMCMXL (PappaWheelie 2), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

It will look quite different but there'll be an option to make it look like this if you want it to. I'll probably be ticking that option.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 23:02 (eighteen years ago)

i hope that all skinning is just done via css

UART variations (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

It is.

stet (stet), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 23:24 (eighteen years ago)

new....ilx?

If someone makes a 'looks like this' stylesheet.

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 00:40 (eighteen years ago)

psh, all they need to do is graft css classnames onto the current code and make stylesheets. it should look like this unstyled

I thought Steve was doing that?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 09:13 (eighteen years ago)

i agree nu-ilx should look like it currently does by default.

i was working on an alt stylesheet a while back but not so as to look like current ilx (based on above logic).

vita susicivus (blueski), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 10:52 (eighteen years ago)

I've got a draft stylesheet that looks roughly like this.

stet (stet), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

sounds good.

vita susicivus (blueski), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 12:08 (eighteen years ago)

would quite like to be rid of all horrible horizontal rulers forever tho

vita susicivus (blueski), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 12:09 (eighteen years ago)

I like the horizontal rulers. Anything that separates the posts as cleanly and easily as possible is good by me. One of the most annoying things about the LJ friends page is that the posts all seem to flow into one another.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 12:45 (eighteen years ago)

i think the present set-up is unimprovable tbh.

the original hauntology blogging crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 12:48 (eighteen years ago)

Oh god yeah, I've no patience for over-elaborate message boards with avatars and quotes and shit. They confuse my poor head.

They're awful clunky things that could/should easily be replaced with better looking css-based borders.

vita susicivus (blueski), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 13:31 (eighteen years ago)

i mean obviously you need a divider between posts. whether you have a border that runs the whole length of the area containing a message or a shorter centred line (as per current layout) is a tricky one.

i think the present set-up is unimprovable tbh.

some people have suggested that the poster's name and details go BEFORE their post but i'm undecided.

One of the most annoying things about the LJ friends page is that the posts all seem to flow into one another.

surely this depends on your template? the one i use marks them out well enough

i agree... especially seeing as how this is currently unstyled. why should the default be one style and "unstyled" a separate style? that makes no sense, especially if public sentiment agrees with me.

dude, you can't be serious. they are just as small and unobtrusive and anything you can do in css. css layouts are what's clunky and awful!

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 25 January 2007 00:44 (eighteen years ago)

as anything

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 25 January 2007 00:44 (eighteen years ago)

and wtf is mickey getting at?

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 25 January 2007 00:44 (eighteen years ago)

my sources tell me that new ilx will resemble that picture

critique de la vie quotidienne (modestmickey), Thursday, 25 January 2007 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

don't take it personally, leo. we're cool.

critique de la vie quotidienne (modestmickey), Thursday, 25 January 2007 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

sorry!

depends how they're written/used surely. but show me other websites, msg boards whatever that actually use horizontal rules as much as ILX tho. most designers would deem them ugly i figure.

vita susicivus (blueski), Thursday, 25 January 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)

next you'll want avatars, 10 posts per page (page 7 of 23923392), BBCode and emoticons.

please choose funtionality over aesthetics, it always ends up looking better after 5 months

friday on the porch (lfam), Friday, 26 January 2007 02:33 (eighteen years ago)

just for the record, i was the first to complain about the new look

tony conrad schnitzler (sanskrit), Friday, 26 January 2007 03:26 (eighteen years ago)

The think I like about ILX is that is looks as functional an un-designed as possible.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 26 January 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

At work, it doesn't look like the internet.
