WDYLL April 2007: request to remove a (deliberately) broken link

Er, I've never asked the mods for anything before, so...

Curious as to why a particular photo of Carsmile on Porkpie's Flickr photostream was getting hundreds of hits (nearly 1,500 views and counting), I decided to take a self-portrait from Flickr and deliberately post the wrong HTML (the page URL between img tags rather than the image itself) and see if it did the same thing. It did.

Now that I've satisfied my curiosity, any chance you could remove two consecutive messages by me on the WDYLL April '07 thread from today (the first begins "Please indulge me for a second")? The hit count for that photo is going loopy and linking in the way I have probably violates Flickr Community Guidelines.

"You should've thought about that before you started dicking about" would be a fair response, I guess.

You should have thought about that before you started dicking about, but I've removed it anyway.

so why WAS the carsmile photo getting so much attention? because everyone clicked the URL? the WDYLL thread is not THAT popular surely?

Every time someone viewed that thread = another hit on the photo. I'm sure it slowed down the thread loading too. 1,500 views in a week isn't a crazy number.

Thanks, Matt DC!

another hit on the photo

because it was linked TO rather than embedded on the thread? i'm confused

Yeah, it was img (URL of Flickr page) backslash img; so it loaded that page every time someone viewed the thread, producing a broken image. I think.
