I don't believe in killfiling individuals. Boards, maybe, but that's because the topic isn't interesting or whatever. When you killfile someone, you are allowing that person to get the best of you from a place where they can but only throw text at you, and on ILX, even that doesn't get too out of hand. Killfiling someone doesn't magically remove them from the dialogue; it removes you, because when people respond to the killfileee, you can't just jump in and say "what's going on guys I don't get it!!!" I mean, it puts more work on you in the end, and the person that's being obnoxious or stupid, well they haven't had to do anything different at all, and if they figure out they're on kill, it may be amusing to them more than if you hadn't killfiled 'em. The kill = ignore filter, on the other hand, always works, since you never actually have to respond to anyone at all if it doesn't suit you.

What you say is true, but I stopped caring about who was getting "the best" of whom and all that power stuff when I realized my anger with people was making my life worse. We don't all have to get along, I wouldn't be friends with some ILXors or choose to talk to them in my daily life -- there are people who challenge you to stay elastic and reasonable, and then there are people you're just never going to like, and I don't think you have to. I just want never to see or hear them again.
