Possible to delete all of my posts?

I don't know if this is a possibility, but I'd like to have all of my posts deleted (it's because of work and my login name having been made easily identifiable--not a matter of life and death, but it would be appreciated).

How is that name easily identifiable? Unless there is some other name you mean, in which case I simply have no idea what you are on about.

Actually, the answer is probably no anyway.

two months pass...
I don't know if this guy ever got his request but I wanted to see if this was possible.

No: it is too disruptive to too many threads, messing up so many discussions.

What about changing login name?

a d adam (adam michel), Saturday, 23 October 2004 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

well you can certainly do that if you want, yes. We won't do it for you retrospectively, because there may well be replies addressing you by name - I'm disinclined to be obliging with moderation requests when it makes nonsense of the posts of others (unless there is some very good reason requiring deletion). Have you said a lot of things you wish you hadn't?

I'm not trying to pick on you in particular as nearly everyone forgets this, but the moderators' duties do not include helping out people who regret things they've said - we're here to try to maintain the peace, protect against legal action, that kind of thing.

I have said things I wish I hadn't, but they were not personal attacks. I understand you are not obliged to cater to every user's needs, but I still feel like I should request retrospective adjustment. I didn't realize login names couldn't be changed until, you know, I decided I didn't want my name on the posts. I've read most all of the threads in question (totaling 80 on ilm; 1 on ile) and I don't think the change would obfuscate any replies -- in the rare cases in which I was addressed by name, users used the handle that appears directly after the post (which, at time, was my full name). That I could arrive at several of my posts through google is what bothers me most. Hope you'll reconsider, but thanks in any case.

"at times", I mean

a d adam (adam michel), Saturday, 23 October 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I am unable to make bulk changes like that anyway, in fact - it would have to be one of the coders. If you are talking about your login name, the one that appears in blue as opposed to the name after the double-dash, I am under the impression that that can't be googled anyway. The latter can, so if you're asking for that to be changed it would at least achieve something - but if we get into helping out people who have said things they regret, I think we are opening a huge and troublesome can of worms. However, as I say, I can't do this anyway, so it'll be up to others.

Thanks for your help, Martin. Should I just wait to see what they say or do I need to direct my request somewhere else?

Mondo vs Squeezit (Thor), Sunday, 24 October 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

If there's any other way to prevent one from being able to simply search my real name as login name on ILM and find all the posts, I'm open to suggestions.

Mondo vs Squeezit (Thor), Sunday, 24 October 2004 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh...I guess I forgot to log out from the other user name. Sorry for the confusion.

a d adam (adam michel), Sunday, 24 October 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I gathered it was you. There isn't anywhere else to post this request, and I dare say it will get read by those with direct access to the database, but I wouldn't be too optimistic if I were you.
