Man jailed for rape wins £7m lottery while on weekend release

The irony of someone not seeing their debate technique turned back on them aside, is this enough of an excuse to pull his current account?

I had just noticed that myself and was about to comment. At this point I see no reason not to do what Dan is asking. Martin and/or Sean, the ball is in your court.

But then again, you did bait him...

dean? (deangulberry), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Dean, the most Dan did in the three posts that can be said to have 'baited' him was to be rather amused over one statement, to put up a couple of links germane to the topic and suggesting Calum might want to review him, and finally drawing a comparison to Ms. Bardot rather than C-Man in particular.

review him => review 'them'

This seems rather less offensive than dozens of things he has said before, which admittedly isn't saying much. We know he objects strongly to cruelty to animals, which is among his rare better points really, and argues like a moron who is getting poked with sticks (actually that isn't so much a simile as a description, of course), someone who lacks the brains to win any argument, or even construct one, so just gets abusive, on that subject in particular. I'm not sure if this is a sane standard for me to be applying, but if he tried getting threatening to someone who could conceivably be scared of him I might be more worried and inclined to act, but when it's to someone who could break him without trying it's just laughable. Actually, I'm not sure I can think of anyone around here who could be physically intimidated by Calum, since we seem short of adolescent girls right now. I'm not sure I can recall anyone around here ever who could be intellectually intimidated by him - unless perhaps someone has their cats read ILX? Anyone?

Or maybe if he ever directed his abuse right, even - you know, attacking someone on grounds where it might take. His usual accuracy and incision is summed up by one of my favourite ever ILE posts: "You don't get out much, do you, Ronan?" (from memory so maybe not 100% accurate) There are loads of areas where I am terribly insecure, but the two where Calum has chosen to attack me is 1) that I have no interest in sex, and 2) that I haven't read much - these are hardly better grounds than the Ronan example.

We all know he's not very clever, and a very unpleasant and rather tragic figure, and most of us are just laughing at him (except obviously when he tries to be funny, when he is generally repetitive and predictable and tedious), apart from the most kind-hearted, who pity him (there are only a couple of these, as far as I know) and the most irritable, who want him banned. This would involve switching to registration for posting, and I personally am still a little way short of taking that step over someone who is mostly just looked on with contemptuous amusement. If another mod decides that's the line to take, obviously no one will mourn his loss and I won't argue with them. Or if Millar tells me he shouldn't have to tolerate such vicious personal abuse, even from someone as trivial as that, I guess I should take notice.

"We all know he's not very clever"

My education would state otherwise Skidmark and judging from the thread and people's lack of interest in such things as what they eat or use cosmetically I'd say I'm the only one here with a heart and a brain. Oddly enough, in the real world I've never been accused of not being intelligent - and it's something that people like about me. At least everyone I've met and hit it off with.

But fuck it, ILX aint worth my time anymore. Looking at Ned's pic and reading his hack work in his shitty mag (can't mind it's name but a mate of mine reads it and oh did we laugh) and being a number 1 poster with no life... Jesus. Get out people. This is a waste.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

P.S. Thanks for posting my name on the other (locked) moderator thread. Happy to be seen as someone who defends animal life.

Sorry Ned, I should've said ... C-Man was being baited by most everyone else on the thread. It seems like the same ole, same ole to me, is all ...

Fair enough -- admittedly with these situations it can get rather involved rather quickly.

Can you answer my questions from the thread last week before you head on out forever c-mang? my life is empty without those answers...

Okay, I'm out of the bag here. But, as a cat, I'm totally offended that you'd make the assumption that he intimidates me intellectually, Martin.

(Haha wow that was easier than I thought it would be)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 12 August 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Calum, 'cleverness' has very little to do with education.
