I'm aware that some people are slightly retarded and changed their email addresses to non-existant ones, despite the clear warning directly above the email fields.

If you're one of those, email me your details and I'll reset your password. I'm only going to be doing this for a limited time because I'm of the opinion that people really should think more before they act. (also who do you think you are not giving ILX a valid email address? FOR SHAME)

Andrew (enneff), Sunday, 7 November 2004 04:43 (twenty years ago)

The important thing here is that there are TWO email fields: the one that is displayed (aka "Your email address"), and a private email address. If you change the main one--the one that'll be displayed in day-to-day use on the board, MAKE SURE THERE IS A VALID ONE in the private field, so you can receive the new password.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 7 November 2004 04:50 (twenty years ago)

i did make sure there was a valid one in the private field. it worked fine for nearly two years. there seems to have been some kind of problem where the email in the "public" field got switched to the one in the "private" field or something.

anyway i don't see a "settings" button on the bottom of the ilx screen anymore (or whatever it was called). is that new?

amateur!!st, Sunday, 7 November 2004 05:45 (twenty years ago)

anyway my password did somehow simply stop working at some point. do you know how that could be??

You're not logged in?

I can't think of any reason (off the top of my head) why that would be, but I'll investigate.

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 8 November 2004 01:52 (twenty years ago)

hey andrew,

i emailed you. did i miss the limited time opportunity?

john'n'chicago, Wednesday, 10 November 2004 19:32 (twenty years ago)

I emailed you immediately with the information you asked for, and also included it in a reply on this board. It's been five days, so I'm assuming that assistance will not be forthcoming.

Whatever. I reregistered. And thanks for the "retarded" comment; it wasn't excessive at all.

Laura H. (laurah), Thursday, 11 November 2004 17:20 (twenty years ago)

You do realize that some people have lives that does not involve fixing other peoples mistakes on a website RIGHT AWAY?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 11 November 2004 18:13 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, those people are the ones who don't call themselves moderators.

sowhatifimonmysticrecords (deangulberry), Thursday, 11 November 2004 19:02 (twenty years ago)

I'm excessively busy right now. Your request will be addressed in turn.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 11 November 2004 23:02 (twenty years ago)

And thanks for the "retarded" comment; it wasn't excessive at all.

It was a joke.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 11 November 2004 23:14 (twenty years ago)

Color me amused. And don't bother now, I'm fine with the alternate ID.

Laura H. (laurah), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:48 (twenty years ago)

sorry to be a jerk, but have you had a chance to deal w/this andrew?

amateur!!st, Tuesday, 16 November 2004 05:21 (twenty years ago)

...

amateur!!st, Thursday, 18 November 2004 17:06 (twenty years ago)

The chances are, if he hasn't posted anything, no.

Just a guess. Because just like you, I'm hoping he'll get a second to install vim.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 18 November 2004 18:19 (twenty years ago)

I know Andrew is busy, and I have no complaints about the things he's done for ILX, so I don't mean this as a criticism of him (or anyone else, for that matter). But something seems problematic when weeks pass before a password/login problem is acknowledged, and more go by without a hint of a fix. How could anyone vote for something like the mandatory registration idea if they can't be confident of their ability to remain registered?

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:21 (twenty years ago)

i appreciate all that andrew has done thus far, and i appreciate that he's usually very speedy with responses to my emails (on those occasions where i've needed to contact him), but i must admit to being a little worried that this has taken so long--two weeks, as of tomorrow.

amateur!!st, Monday, 22 November 2004 17:21 (twenty years ago)

i'll set up a new account.

amateur!!st, Thursday, 25 November 2004 00:02 (twenty years ago)

no, wait: i'm being dense. i can't set up a new account with the same email address--hence the problem. i don't feel like setting up a new email address exclusively for ilx. so i'll continue posting unregistered until i hear from andrew.

amateur!!st, Thursday, 25 November 2004 00:04 (twenty years ago)

are you going to admit that you fucked up and not ilx yet?

Does John Coltrane Dream of a Merry-go-round? (ex machina), Thursday, 25 November 2004 07:16 (twenty years ago)

actually i'm a total space cadet, i don't know what happened. i probably did fuck up. but i'm not sure how.

i thought you were using "ilx" as a verb for a moment. your sentence construction is a bit awkward.

amateur!!st, Thursday, 25 November 2004 18:26 (twenty years ago)

happy thanksgiving!

amateur!!st, Thursday, 25 November 2004 18:28 (twenty years ago)

yeaaa, i was "tired"

Does John Coltrane Dream of a Merry-go-round? (ex machina), Friday, 26 November 2004 07:07 (twenty years ago)

andrew, why did you offer to fix our accounts and then disappear? i hope everything is ok.

amateur!!st, Saturday, 27 November 2004 23:42 (twenty years ago)

i'm just posting to this thread out of respect for tradition, now.

amateur!!st, Sunday, 28 November 2004 08:39 (twenty years ago)

Learn to let go... reregister and move on.

Laura H. (laurah), Monday, 29 November 2004 12:59 (twenty years ago)

id really prefer not to have to get a new email address

amateur!!st, Tuesday, 30 November 2004 00:48 (twenty years ago)

ok, andrew, at the very least, can you delete the existing account using the login "amateurist" so i can create a new one using my new email address?

amateur!!st, Tuesday, 30 November 2004 01:49 (twenty years ago)

please let me know when you've done that, i'm interested in having "amateurist" as my new account. ok thanks.

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:02 (twenty years ago)

haha

are you dean or cutty or one of those people? i can't see emails obv.

amateur!!st, Tuesday, 30 November 2004 19:45 (twenty years ago)

i am one of "those people"

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 21:54 (twenty years ago)

ok so i have a new account. andrew, there's no need to do anything.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 23:14 (twenty years ago)

Aw, I always enjoyed this thread revival.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 09:24 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it's like "Waiting for Godot."

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:03 (twenty years ago)

It takes a village to ignore Amateurist long enough for him to figure out a solution to his problems.

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 20:26 (twenty years ago)

i'm still utterly at a loss to explain why you persist in being in a jerk online, dean. if you're not satisfied with the "sociopath" explanation, care to venture another? are you simply bored?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 21:47 (twenty years ago)

and if you're simply bored, why not just create new threads where you can post pictures of ponies and rainbows?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 21:48 (twenty years ago)

Amateurist was a hell of a lot more patient about this than most posters would have been. If it were Jon, we would have had a dozen picture threads about mods hating him.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 21:51 (twenty years ago)

oh, now you had to bring me into it!

I wouldn't have fucked up in the first place.

TITS.JPG (ex machina), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 22:40 (twenty years ago)

Okay, "if it were you a year ago or whenever." I haven't seen you post much recently, you don't actually seem to be doing that anymore. I meant the Jon of Earth-2.

How do we know Amateurist fucked anything up if he's not even acknowledged by the people who could find out? He isn't one of the ones who changed his email address to something that wouldn't work. If he fucked up some other way, it'd be good for other users to know about it if it's something non-obvious.

we can't let this die. it is a thing of beauty.

two weeks pass...
.. It was all a dream...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 09:45 (twenty years ago)

ok now i can't login and it ain't sending me a password reset: i gotta say what up

blount, Wednesday, 22 December 2004 00:05 (twenty years ago)

Me too.

Maybe same people use an non-existent E-mailaddress since their real one is no longer accepted.

The system won't let me use my real name, Friday, 31 December 2004 20:40 (twenty years ago)

Me too - I unwisely adjusted a couple of details on my account, and changed my email address. Silly me! Now I can't seem to log in or reregister. I will stick to the shorter threads until I hear from the very busy mods or whatever. Anyway, I can be emailed on the above addy. No hurry.

da music moley, Monday, 3 January 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Can I just get a quick yes or no confirmation that I will be able to log in with a new password if I change my email addy?

Since so many others (on this thread) had problems logging in, I figured I'd ask before changing anything and locking myself out.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 21 January 2005 07:19 (twenty years ago)

If you change your email address to a valid, new email address, you'll be fine.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 21 January 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

Great, thanks.
