It would seem mean, roxy, but I think the mods are busy and typos are part of life over here at ILX. In the end they are part of the flavor of the place, just look at them like they were the mistakes in oriental rugs.

I think the dirty little secret is some people type their stuff into Word, run it through the spell checker and then cut and paste. Not that I have anything against this practice.

And I'm sorry if my answer seemed mean, but I figured better to answer it than to let it languish, and better to be brief than to write a treatise on the reasons, which have been gone over before in this forum. Mod changes take mod time, server resources, and create expectations for later mod behavior. It's not that I hate you or drugs, it's that I don't want everyone starting to bug the mods for spelling mistakes when a bit of care on your part would eliminate the problem. And nobody is going to seriously judge you on a spelling mistake here--if it bugs you that much, make a followup post.

no worries, if other mods want to be the go-to spelling correctors, more power to them. I'm not overworked at all, I just don't think spelling something mods should be concerned with.

Hahaha you have no idea how hard it was NOT to fix my typos when I was a mod (and sometimes I succumbed)! The fact that it would be in the admin log for the bored to see helped; anyone with enough time on their hands to read the admin log is also VERY likely to complain that the mods are using their powers to make themselves look gonzomegaerudite and ignoring the pleas of the spelling-challenged.

Of course I could've just not typed anything at all into the 'reason' box (like other mods), or come up with a better reason. To make amends perhaps I should pledge to edit a maximum of five posts a month made by other posters where they have mistyped a word or uniwttingly misinformed, hey I've got plenty of time on my hands sitting here all day.
