ILX, or possibly Ned, have begun to get utterly staid

Why is EVERY fucking thread posted by myself removed even when they are 100% innocous?

Example - my Shania Twain thread, which simply was "Has anyone done a thread on Shania Twain yet?" and them a comment on the main post about how pretty she is. NOT "I want to fuck her" or anything like that, just how amazingly hot she is.

Threads that have been utterly fine have been removed by, most likely, Ned and the end result is - I think - a shockingly uneventful message board when once it was a bit edgier, you know? A bit more LIVELY.

Ned, hate to break it to you but do a search of your history on this board - one guy causes this forum to break into hugely entertaining, madcap, 100 plus posts by two hours time type threads and it is me.

I should listen to my gfriend - you guys really do have no grasp of irony or humour.

Music Mick, Tuesday, 7 June 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

And before you mention it, I am well aware of the (intentional) self-parody above.

Otherwise you'd have pointed it out, no doubt taking it 100% seriously.

Music Mick, Tuesday, 7 June 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Ah feck it, delete this thread too.

Music Mick, Tuesday, 7 June 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

i think you may be right mick. time for all of us to move on? may not be worth saving, and your girlfriend is right, no irony or humour here, and thats kind of sad. i sometimes wonder if it would be more fun to hang out where there is some irony, or at least, maybe a little humour. there is, at least, some half-decent intentional self-parody around though, i think thats something at least

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 04:23 (twenty years ago)

Isnt Ned not a mod? And hasnt he pointed this out a bajillion times already?

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:24 (twenty years ago)

isn't it ironic?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 10:41 (twenty years ago)

Most of the people who have deleted your threads recently have not been Ned, Calum. Also, Ned is not a mod on "I Love Everything".

Perhaps you should check out that board I emailed you the url for?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

What's ironic, that they took Ned off being a mod so he wouldn't delete Music Mick's threads and then other people are deleting them anyway and MM is complaining about this? Don't you have some monster movie articles to write, Mick?

(xpost)

k/l (Ken L), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

Why isn't Ned a mod? He should be.

Second: Why isn't Norm a mod across both boards? He should be.

Ned and Norm are the two most prominent people on ILX (I think) and I actually would have been happier if it was Ned deleting my posts.

I now cast my vote for both of these guys to be given joint ownership of ILX - and, besides, I quite like Norm.

Thanks

Music Mick, Tuesday, 7 June 2005 12:55 (twenty years ago)

You're an odd one.

I'm not that prominent! I mean, I bet you post more than me, I'm nearly invisible.

I'm quite happy to be just a mod on ILM, and I'd only take up the mod baton on ILE if it was like "mod volunteer take one step forward" and everybody else took a step backwards. Even though most of what I read there is incomprehensible, I still have this massive attachment to the place & the people who post there, which I suppose is "sad" but actually I don't think it is. nu-ILM I don't have the attachment to, so I can just delete links to tubgirl and libellous statements on request w/o worrying abt the board going down the pan.

Teeny is the best mod on ILX, I think.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

Plus, Ned is one of the nicest people I've ever come across online.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

I like ILX, and I wouldn't post here if I did not. I don't actually mind Ned, though I think he has been unacceptably unpleasant to myself at times. I cannot think of one ILXor who has wound me up, but I tend to not remember more than about three or four people that post here. I don't like having a pretty witty thread removed. My Echobelly Vs Echo and the Bunnymen one was one such example.

Music Mick, Tuesday, 7 June 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

Teeny is the best mod on ILX, I think.

Agreed!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

Calum Robert Wadell posts to the Mobius Home Video Forum under the name Richard Wadell - it's funny how he doesn't act like an arsehole on that message board, perhaps he wants to impress them with his shitty articles for the dark side magazine

sneaky sneek, Wednesday, 8 June 2005 10:31 (twenty years ago)

I can't believe we're even having 'who's your favourite ILX mod' conversations now!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

The whole singling out of Ned baffles me every time. It just doesn't make any sense, even if it's MEANT to confuse people, as if this was funny the first time never mind the millionth. I just don't understand it, where's the logic? I've deleted a few Calum threads as a result of seeing other people (not Ned) do the same, which was encouraging. Personally I have a real bee in my bonnet re both attention-seeking and repetition so you can imagine how irked I get by the torrent of dross that gets posted on ILE and ILM by the usual suspects. I wouldn't mind if it was actually as funny and clever as it thinks it is. I shall continue to ponder this menatlity and methodology though, as I often wonder if things I see and do are really any 'better'. I hope my powers have not made me too arrogant. I think the only thing I have done 'wrong' as a moderator is correct too many of my posts where I mistyped something important (not just mistyping 'and' or something).

I hope for fun, inspiring and intellectually stimulating discussion and debate on ILX as always. And maybe a little ballbreakin' now and then.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Actually I do not post as Richard Wadell at all... sorry. I don't post on that forum and have not done in literally years.

Film_Frank, Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

"literally"

Jetlag Willy (noodle vague), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Hey -- could a moderator please explain why Calum's threads are being deleted? I'm not sure I agree that every Calum thread = bad Calum thread.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

I mean, to be honest, I didn't even notice that the Lindsay Lohan one was a Calum thread.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

every calum thread is a bad calum thread because it encourages him coming around. Due to years of bad behavior, he gets special rules. The Lohan one was a dupe besides. If you think any of those threads are worthwhile, you are free to start them yourself.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 9 June 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

"Well, there's a lot of bleeding hearts around who just don't like to see people with helmets and guns. All I can say is go on and bleed. It's more important to keep law and order in this society than to be worried about weak-kneed people who don't like the looks of helmets." Pierre Trudeau Oct 1970.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 9 June 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

Based on the more than anecdotal evidence and based on what he says in his initial post on this very thread

Ned, hate to break it to you but do a search of your history on this board - one guy causes this forum to break into hugely entertaining, madcap, 100 plus posts by two hours time type threads and it is me.

I should listen to my gfriend - you guys really do have no grasp of irony or humour.

it is obvious that the guy finds it funny and in fact it is his main and only reason for being here to flood the board with his BS rather than actually reading or engaging with what anybody else is saying. Why should the mods be bothered to pick through all of his crap to find the one allegedly innocuous thread?

I'm not going to act all outraged about this, because I don't care that much, but it is irritating to have a thread in which you have posted multiple times deleted. I understand that you're saying Calum is a special case, but I thought the policy was that it's ok to delete troll threads but once a significant number of other people post on the the thread, it stays. Is this going to be a permanent, ongoing policy, that every thread Calum posts is going to get deleted? I would like to know so my hard work and genius don't go to waste.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 9 June 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

What Counts As Spamming The Board?
If you spam the board moderators are likely to lock or delete your threads. What counts as spamming? - obvious advertisements, other than for events you are personally involved in. - multiple threads on the same or very similar topics. Thread duplication isn't spamming if a previous thread on the topic isn't currently in the new answers page. Otherwise it is and the moderators will probably do something about it. Don't start complaining unless you've read this first.

So what he is doing is technically not spamming, therefore we are bloodthirsty fascists?

Actually, nick's point is a good one.

k/l (Ken L), Thursday, 9 June 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, what Nick said. I guess I was never aware of this monolithic policy, either.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 9 June 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

To be thoroughly honest, it seems to have turned out by consensus among the mods (and specifically the ILE/ILM mods -- the other boards can do what they like) rather than discussion. However, I can't say I'm surprised it *has* happened this way.

That said, I was initially surprised at Teeny's deletions of the threads today, precisely because they were, for him, comparatively sober minded and due to the posts made on it from others. But quite frankly I like her explanation a lot. Remember, he claims not to care about the boards at all, then whenever he get called on that turns wheedling and whiny in equal terms (and trust me, you don't want to see the private mails he sends). Unsurprisingly teeny has grown tired of this game and I support this decision completely.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 June 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

Sounds good.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 9 June 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

I totally hear you, n/a, and I wish I'd gotten those before a bunch of people posted on them, and I'm sorry your posts were lost in the process. I considered simply locking, maybe I should have. However, I get just as frustrated at people responding to C as I do at the troll himself. I know you didn't realize it was him.

With a few exceptions, I've deleted or locked every thread of his that's started under my mod tenure. It started out as kind of an experiment and I think it's gone pretty well. I didn't make a big announcement because the less attention paid to trolls the better, I wasn't sure the experiment would work, and I felt it was less likely to work if I did make a big deal out of it. I'll put it in the FAQ if it makes people feel better, rest assured he is the ONE character for whom this applies, and this only after years of ridiculous behavior.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 9 June 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

First of all "Teeny" (HA), what kind of life do you lack to be sitting waiting to delete perfectly fine threads and why one earth do you think that I posted two reasonable threads simply to raise ire? I did not. I posted them because they had legitimate subjects or raised worthwhile objections.

Doesnt bother me - you are the one having to run around and delete shit instead of doing something creative or trying to de-pant the opposite sex or whatever else might make your day more worthwhile.

Ned, on the other hand, has a major bug up his ass and needs to get over whatever it is that has made him like this. Shame.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 9 June 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Like most everybody else here I think censorship is a bad thing. I think I'm insignifact enough that my opinions should carry no weight at all. But as far as I can see Calum doesn't give a shit about anything other than his own ability to garner attention. Genuine posters respond to other people. Narcissists like C. post objectionable shite in the hope of provoking a response, and never engage in a discussion. Fuck him. Keep deleting til he goes away.

Jetlag Willy (noodle vague), Thursday, 9 June 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

also, calum waddell, i know who bret somers is but who's m------ g------ and why should we care that according to you he's gay or unqualified for his job? again, if people don't know who you're talking about your jokes will fall a bit flat.

j blount (papa la bas), Friday, 10 June 2005 22:23 (twenty years ago)

ok, this: - came up on image search so apparently m------ g---- is some horror dude so maybe calum hates him cuz of some 'scene' politics or something. it takes a brave man to talk shit about someone somewhere they know they'll never see it.

j blount (papa la bas), Friday, 10 June 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

I would ask that whomever has posted fanboy abuse about someone that I admire a great deal (and also about myself) please grow up and remove this and, moreoever, stop attributing this to myself. A simple IP search would show that I would never post anything abusive about a colleague of mine (especially one that I look up to), but nonetheless I believe ILX has a policy about this sort of thing as it amounts to slander - especially since James is saying someone pretending to me has said something about someone being gay or somewhat nonsense.

Look guys, I don't post here at the best of times but fanboy abuse I can do without - and so should you.

If this thread is not removed then I will be phoning ILX's host. Posts to moderators and indeed you yourself James have also be sent.

Thanks all
