System won't let me subscribe to email update on either my home computer or my work computer.

I ass-u-me that it's something in my prefs or something.
Someone asked me for a screen shot, which I provided, then... nada.

We've seen something like this before. It's a security-related error that in normal circumstances you would get if you were trying to access an admin's page and you aren't an admin. However, this shouldn't be your problem. I can't see any errors attributed to you. I can't really remember what the issue was the last time as it was a couple of years ago... Try a different browser perhaps? Sorry I can't be more helpful, but at the moment, I don't know the answer.

Keith, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 07:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Actually, it could also be shown if you're trying to access a normal page but aren't logged in - wonder if your browser's causing issues there. Do you have any sort of funny cookie setup or unusual plugins?

Keith, Tuesday, 5 May 2009 07:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Mmmm. I use Firefox on both computers. My home one is a Mac, work is a PC (natch). I'll try Safari @ home and see...

No weird weird plugins... Adblock, Downthemall, and some ftp stuff... I'll turn off the adblock here and see if that does anything.

three weeks pass...

Hmmm... does same thing in Safari.

Does someone have a super-duper admin account, and can just subscribe me to a daily email update for ILM?

I like the new "remove bookmark" feature.

Cheers. Hope it works.

Not so crazy about removal of "last updated by XXXXX" in thread titles... why'd that get pulled?

I used to like dem burgers boy (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 22:04 (fifteen years ago) link

wurp, that's only on I pwn everything board?

I used to like dem burgers boy (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 22:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh, it's not removed... It's just that it only populates that information when people first read that thread, so because I stopped and started the server, some of them are empty. They'll sort themselves out shortly.

Keith, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 22:05 (fifteen years ago) link

I figured it was time to make it easier for Jhosh to get rid of some of his 1300 bookmarks.

Keith, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 22:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Hm, makes sense.

The "remove bookmark" thing is great!

Gerard (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 23:13 (fifteen years ago) link

^Agreed! Also though there is this weird "Bookmark Removed" message that pops up on threads constantly that I have never bookmarked or even looked at.

Nhex, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 23:27 (fifteen years ago) link

Nhex - that's probably just your browser needing refreshed. It's a div tag that has a style associated with it to make it invisible (until it gets turned on briefly to indicate that you've clicked the button), but if your browser hasn't caught up with the stylesheet, then it'll default to being there all the time.

Keith, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 23:28 (fifteen years ago) link

Ah, I believe you are correct. All good.

Nhex, Thursday, 11 June 2009 00:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Woah. I guess I should stop by once in a while and see who's having a party on my thread...

Now, if we can all get back to addressing MY problem, which is why I miss out on stuff on ILM!

factcheckr, Thursday, 18 June 2009 13:22 (fifteen years ago) link

Factcheckr, the problem I have with your problem is that I have no idea what it is that's stopping it work - it works for others, so I am assuming it's something at your end. What that is, I just don't know, but if you can provide more information about what's going on at your end then I'll try to help.

Also worth bearing in mind that all the subscription does is to send you an email detailing basically what's in the new answers page for a given day. For ILM, that means you'll get an email every day. The idea was not really for board like ILM, which are always updated, it was for low use boards to remind interested parties when something has happened on them - for ILM, then the function is basically the same as setting some sort of daily reminder to go and look at ILM...

Keith, Thursday, 18 June 2009 16:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Hi Keith

That's exactly what I'm looking for. There's a lot going on there that's of no interest to me, but then there's stuff that is REALLY interesting that I miss.

Dunno what the problem is either. I click "Subscribe to a daily email update from this board" and I get HTTP Status 403 - Access to the requested resource has been denied <http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/Pages/Admin/confirm.jsp?action=subscribe&boardid=41>;

That's it. I get it from my work PC, and my Mac @ home. At home I get it on Firefox & Safari. Can some admin just sign me up?

factcheckr, Friday, 19 June 2009 19:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, which boards is it you want signed up for? I'll add you to ILM...

It is strange, as the URL you post actually shouldn't be allowable, so it's behaving correctly, but others have been able to subscribe - bit confused! I'll take a look. Maybe it is entirely my fault after all!

Keith, Friday, 19 June 2009 20:15 (fifteen years ago) link

OK, thanks for posting the link, as that explained it. My fault. I'll fix it shortly.

Keith, Friday, 19 June 2009 20:22 (fifteen years ago) link

OK, that should be entirely fixed now, I think.

It was actually broken for everyone! People on the list were admins of some form or another. D'oh.

Keith, Friday, 19 June 2009 20:44 (fifteen years ago) link

can't post in the locked thread but thank you! i didn't mean to even make a demand because it doesn't matter much to me but it's probably for the best, right

harbl, Friday, 19 June 2009 20:48 (fifteen years ago) link

That's OK - yeah it probably is the right thing.

one month passes...

Oddly enough, I just now got my first email from the robot... ever.

I meant to come back and post that I never had, but procrastinated, and now...

factcheckr, Monday, 27 July 2009 23:11 (fifteen years ago) link

I wonder... We were forced to start using GMail for email as the ILX box itself got blacklisted as sending out spam, so emails got scrubbed. I wonder if GMail is doing something similar.

Keith, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 06:50 (fifteen years ago) link

Actually I got that one email digest the one time, then nada

factcheckr, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 23:02 (fifteen years ago) link

WOAH!

Another email from the robot!
