why has that ITV thread been locked?

Thread starters can now make threads reg-only. Hurrah, good compromise etc.

But! we do need a special message for when this happens, something like "This thread has been limited by its poster to registered users only." to avoid baffling people. (see above)

i changed it so it at least says "Unregistered users cannot post on this thread". This matches the same message when a board is so locked, and gives a nominal reason to people who wonder why it is locked.

The link "Show All Details" gives the details of who and why. Though this is not obvious to the novice, I don't thin it's a big deal - and it is the right place for it. If anyone disagrees I could perhaps make it so that the permission lists shown in "Show all details" also appears when a "this thread is locked" message ever appears.

one month passes...
"Show All Details" still doesn't give details of who locked a thread.

Also, whatever happened to that idea of having a private email address by which to contact moderators? (Seeing as how my asking even the most innocuous of technical questions on this board seems to be an invitation to chaos.)

it doesn't really matter who locks a thread as long as the reason is displayed. unless you were planning to e-mail them privately to complain about the reason but i would strongly discourage that and keep it just to either this board or the ilxmoderator email.
