Does Thread Locking Turn Up In The Admin Log?

Because the Self Depreciation thread just got locked - and I wanted to know why. A reason would be nice, but I can't get one either in "show all details" or in the admin log.

There is a box for notes/comments that is part of the thread locking dialogue. I thought it did turn up somewhere, but I don't know?

I thought there was, too. (A box for reason, that is) but I'll be darned if I can find it anywhere.

it has been a long standing irritation that i forgot to add thread permisson changes to the admin log.

it is on my list

when you list the permissions on a thread (show all details) then you can see the reason given, but not who did it, etc

also, it isn't locked now

I would've thought it was obvious why it was locked - there was already a 'self deprecation: c/d' thread and this was linked to on the new mis-spelt thread so the new thread was locked as tends to happen in this situation.

In hindsight the older one could've been (and perhaps now should be) locked instead, there needn't be two after all.

Self-deprication - C/D is still locked. So if people really desperately DO want to post about this topic I suggest they go back to the older thread.

No you can't - well, either you can't, or a reason wasn't given.

It just says:

This thread has been locked by an administrator

Thread Permissions Everyone locked

(FWIW, I don't think it's always the best idea to revive an old thread, especially if an old thread contains large amounts of feuding, but then again that's just me.)

Paranoid Spice (kate), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

Yeah the locking thing makes a lot more sense on ILM where there is honestly no value in having more than one thread on an album. On ILE there are often issues which mean that coming at the subject fresh might be appreciated.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

I actually had something new to say about self depreciation, after reading the "Watching The English" book - but then as soon as I opened the old thread, all I see is feuding and ugliness I don't feel like revisiting.

So my point got lost. Which I think is a pity, but whatever.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

Surely you can just ignore it all and scroll down to the end of the thread?

I think the original thread actually has a lot of good insightful thoughts on it on the topic generally as well as wrt ILXer behaviour so it's worth other people reading it before contributing to any new thread imo.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Oh of course, a link to the old thread is totally apt but for wide and nuanced discussions new threads aren't always The Enemy.

Whereas you really do only need one C/D Pavement thread.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Sure. Although I do think it's highly likely any new thread on the topic would end up featuring the same level of personal confrontation, argument and 'ugliness' (hey it's an ugly subject) from people, and I'd like the vicious circle to be avoided ideally or at least kept to the same place (but not to the extent where it restricts constructive arguments).

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

i think the problem here was simply that the creator of the second thread couldn't find the original because he was spelling it wrongly; therefore surely locking and forgetting the second thread was the only sensible thing to do. i mean: how else would anyone have found it again?

or i suppose it could have been re-titled. hmm.

but hey, don't listen to me. what do i know?

:)

three months pass...
ok so, can we get thread/user UNLOCKs/UNYELLOWCARDs etc to show up in the log?
