system didn't recognize any of my email addresses, but said my user name was taken. Had to create a new account to ask this question.
my old user name was factcheckr

stet'll have to be the one to field this one. Was your account inactive for more than six months? I believe accounts are deleted after that length of inactivity.

Heard from stet -- he's on holiday with little/no net for a couple more weeks, so please be patient.

same thing happened to me. impossible to contact anyone about this either, once you're locked out :( is it really necessary to *automatically* delete accounts after 6 months, I had no idea this was going to happen, maybe some sort of warning could have been sent automatically? I don't post here all the time but I've been reading this board for close to ten years (& it used to be completely open) and would like to be able to post occasionally and vote in polls, etc. & had my old login for several years (and another one before that that I managed to get locked out of as well, sigh). just sayin'

There are thousands of registered users at any one time and dozens of new registrations per day, most of whom never get round to actually posting. I assume the rationale of automatically deleting them is that so they don't clog up the database, but I can't be 100% sure.

that's fair enough, but, as I said, I had a login for years (and another one before that) and did post, not as often as some people but occasionally, so a quick look at my account would have maybe prevented it from being deleted. That, or maybe an automated warning via email, you need an email address to register so it would be easy to set up?
