So why come no-image settings don't work when you link?

This always sneaks up and catches me at work. So far as I can tell, if someone posts a link to a different ILX thread, and one follows that link, the "do not show images" setting has no effect -- it displays the thread with images. E.g. I just clicked from the Excelsior thread over to Tuomas's bear ass-candle thread, and, well, I didn't exactly look what-all was in there, but I'm not exactly hopeful.

Is there anything that can be done about this, apart from my just remembering not to click links? (Maybe remove the code that turns intra-ILX links into the thread title, so people can more easily cut and paste the URL and view with their settings intact?)

interesting! has anyone else had this experience? Nabisco, does this happen consistently? Do you think it has anything to do with the p3r/wh3rd division? (are you logged in on both domains and are your settings the same on each? [I don't even know if it's possible for settings to be different but it's worth asking])

I couldn't get this bug to happen for me.

Do you browse ILX using http://ilx.wh3rd.net or http://ilx.p3r.net? Have you logged into both of those URLs?

Aha, y'all are spot-on: I use wh3rd, the link in question was to p3r. I've never paid attention to this split, so it never occurred to me that there'd be independent cookies. Especially when I'm scrambling for the "back" button because my screen is full of big hairy, umm, bear.

yes you'd have different cookies for the diff domains, but so long as they're both saying you are logged in as the same identity, you only have one user account and the settings are kept on the server and belong to yr account so you should end up with the same behaviour regardless.

unless on one domain you are logged in and logged out on the other (or as another user)
