Unofficially, it looks like a slllllloooooooow week (even for me) (and I read almost everything). Which means I might drop trou for both those Showcase collections AND True Porn.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 3 October 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

The Showcase Presents ARE True Porn.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 3 October 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

Gotham Central & Detective are U&K. JSA & Outsiders because I need to feel shamey. Rann/Thanagar War because, um, it's the last issue. HOW MANY FILL-IN PENCILLERS CAN DANCE ON THE HEAD OF A PIN?
Metamorpho Showcase due already too! But not cheapo, but still pretty cheap.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 3 October 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

Actually, as the R/TW had a fill-in? I think that & Detective Chimp's Vengeance Brigade might escape filler-free!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty sure DoV#3 had some fill-inization in it.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

IOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLL!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:49 (twenty years ago)

(I am so close to the Pol Manning story in Showcase Presents GL that I haven't even read last week's Daredevil yet. Don't know what one has to do with the other, but still.)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

Cute thread title!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

Anyone w/ info on the following: ELKS RUN #1-3 COLLECTED ED VOL 1 TP? I have heard the good things, but am wondering if I could hear of the good things first hand.

Pour moi, cera comme la nuit:

DC SPECIAL THE RETURN OF DONNA TROY #4 (OF 4)
DETECTIVE COMICS #812 {hi Huk!}
FANTASTIC FOUR IRON MAN BIG IN JAPAN #1 (OF 4) {yayayayayay!}
FELL #2 {REALLY REALLY GOOD; slim & cheap monthly about a detective in Alaska doing stuff; "every issue = a complete story!"}
GOTHAM CENTRAL #36
INCREDIBLE HULK #87
JACK STAFF #9
MARVEL TEAM-UP #13
NEW THUNDERBOLTS #13
POWERS #13 (MR)
RANN THANAGAR WAR #6 (OF 6)
SHOWCASE PRESENTS METAMORPHO VOL 1 TP {wheeeee!}
SUPERMAN SHAZAM FIRST THUNDER #2 (OF 4) {it's real purty}
SUPREME POWER NIGHTHAWK #2 (OF 6) (MR) {OMG this Nighthawk is, like, TOTALLY Batman; AND his arch-nemesis OMG is A CLOWN!}
THOR BLOOD OATH #2 (OF 6) {also REALLY REALLY GOOD; Thor gets suckered into questing w/ the Warriors Three to fetch some things a troll-type wants}
TRUE PORN VOL 2 TP (A) {mmmmmmmaybe}
WATCHMEN THE ABSOLUTE EDITION HC {if I was MADE OF MONEY}
WONDER WOMAN #221

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

DC SPECIAL THE RETURN OF DONNA TROY #4 (OF 4) - Do I care? Probably not, but at this point, whatever.
DETECTIVE COMICS #812 - Just think, if it wasn't for War Crimes, this would be Lapham's last issue (or second last?).
GOTHAM CENTRAL #36 - WHO KILLED DEAD ROBIN? And why is this man smiling?
JSA #78 - AT LAST THE THRILLING CONCLUSION TO "WHERE DID I LEAVE MY READING GLASSES?"
JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #14 - I've been reading this in CBR and it's good fun.
OUTSIDERS #29 - How will Winick top last month's full page splash of Nightwing and Starfire surrounded by DOZENS of opened condom wrappers? ONLY BLACK LIGHTNING KNOWS!!!
RANN THANAGAR WAR #6 (OF 6) - AT LAST! THE THRILLING CONCLUSION TO "WHATEVER HAPPENED TO CAPTAIN COMET?"
SHOWCASE PRESENTS METAMORPHO VOL 1 TP - OH YEAH. Though I'm sad the cheapo pricing didn't take for the whole series. I mean...the Superman and GL books would've sold like fat fucking phonebooks of silver comics anyway, but Metamorpho could probably really use the price break! OH WELLS.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

detective comics
gotham central.
MAYBE the daredevil trade..

that FELL thing sounds pretty cool, but i'm doubting my local store carries it. maybe forbidden planet does.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

They should, unless they're a 7-11! It's pretty high-profile for a non-Big-Two - Image is publishing it, Warren Ellis is writing it, & Ben "I LIKE ALASKAN VAMPIRES" Templesmith is paint-drawing it.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

Also, we shd totally start a BLACK LIGHTNING FIVE-YEAR MEGA-EVENT WRITTEN BY HUK-L petition. I'll get the crayons.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

Is Lapham's run likely to be collected? Is it worth just buying?
Other than that: Gotham Central. And where's Zatanna?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

JSA SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER - Last months is not referred to at all. what a load of crap that was. This time it is magical troubles a go go as Mordru escapes (yawn, not again), Dr Fate is still trapped on a mountain somewhere and half the team go to the Thunderbolt dimension where Jakeem is some kind of crazed all powerful baddy for no good reason. Also he is bald. Jonny Thunder's entire 50s/60s supporting cast die horribly (Peachy Pet!!! Nooooo!!!) while Jakeem goes Bwa Ha Ha.

Dear Geoff Johns, please buck yr ideas up pronto or I am out of here.

Mark C (Markco), Thursday, 6 October 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

Didn't the inker write this month's JSA?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 6 October 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

Oh no.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 6 October 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

oh did he? I still blame Geoff Johns!!!

Mark C (Markco), Thursday, 6 October 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

Fell is good!
It's a detectiveb who is reminiscent of Holmes or Poe's Dupin, but the story's a different matter, more character oriented and with very little actual plot development (I got #1, don'tn know if #2 is any different).

Gotham Central rawked! I think the best installment of "Dead Robins" and
SPOILER

the best appearance of Batman so far! It's derivative, I admit, but I love my derivative detectivebs.

The Return of Donna Troy: DONNA TROY HAS RETURNED. She is the gateway to the Multiverse! Oh no! Remember how in the original Crisis, Alex Luthor had stars inside him? SO DOES DONNA TROY! And she is hot for Arseface! Download, don't buy.
Rann Thanagar War: Zeta-Beam! Onimar Synn! Captain Comet! "Who's side are you guys on?" "We're on the Universe's side, poozer!" It's all so shitty!
Daredevil Hot spies! Hot spies in jumpsuits! Hot spies in jumpsuits who are ladies!
JSA: More comics I don't care about but continue to buy!
Outsiders: Where is Tep to defend this series? The art is getting better, at least. The only reason Sabbac is with the Fearsome Five is so that he has someone to trade WINICKDIALOGUEâ„¢ with.
Detective Comics: Oh wow. Oh goody. Such a fucking respite of goodness after the above. First panel includes a fantastic nod to Taxi Driver. I hope Latham gets to write (and maybe draw, please please please) an ALL-STAR Jim Gordon with Robin the Boy Wonder ongoing series once this is done.
Gotham Central Woo, hell yeah. Fuck yeah. Creepy, cool, human. Awesome Batman stuff. I kinda like Commissioner Akins. Hell, I like everybody. Except Corrigan, that guy's an ass.
Showcase Presents: Metamorpho the Element Man: This is so fucking good. I've only read the first two stories, but it's the shit. With extra peanuts.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 7 October 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

Ha - I was considering putting Outsiders back on my List Of Crap because of the improved art, but then I remembered that I didn't enjoy reading it. I gotta do more culling.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 7 October 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

What puzzles me is that Winnick's Batman is really good, while Outsiders and Green Arrow are not. Very not.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 7 October 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

What really puzzles me is why I keep spelling Winick's name with two N's? Is there a leak in the Multiverse? ASK DONNA TROY!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

IT'S IN HER PANTSSSS

So does no-one else read Treehouse of Horror? Fair enough, but the gimmick this year is pretty cool: one side of the comic book is the usual stuff, worse than usual this year, but the other ones has a Marv Wolfman/Gene Colan Dracula parody, and a Len Wein/Bernie Wrightson Swamp Thing parody. Only the latter of which is any good.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

Who did the parodies?

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 06:47 (twenty years ago)

Marv Wolfman, Gene Colan, Len Wein, Bernie Wrightson.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 07:41 (twenty years ago)

(I'm not claiming I made that clear, but that's the answer)
