so i've been thinking i'd like to check out grant morrison's run on the JLA, as i enjoyed his x-menz so much. yesterday at the comic shop i was pleased to see the first trade was only $7.95 and i was THIS close to buying it until a cursory flip-through revealed supes' horrible mulletish long hairdo! I COULD NOT BUY IT. i really couldn't.

questions:

1) when did this happen
2) how long did it last
3) why
4) how
5) argh

Remember when Superman died?
HE CAME BACK AS THE DRUMMER FOR LOVERBOY.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 13 October 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

it was really upsetting!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 13 October 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

So that was the price he had to pay for being resurrected?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 13 October 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

I think the Mullet and later Energy Being thing are the primary reasons I'm not as appreciative of the Morrison JLA as maybe I should be.

xpost

Even Jesus had a mullet when He came back.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 13 October 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

too high a price. too high.

so is he mulleted for the whole run?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 13 October 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

No, eventually he turns into ENERGY SUPERMAN!

I have no idea what that's all about.

Why were there two energy Supermen? I never read them so I didn't really know what was going on there other than fanboys were crying (which automatically made me love the concept).

I can't find any pictures of the Supermullet. :(

Btw, it didn't put me off of Morrison JLA (I think it's kinda perfect actually), but I respect your principles, Slocki.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 13 October 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

It's funny, but tragic.

One pic = illustrative

Four pics = plain torture

second rate mattwagneresque painted art = this means war!

You know what's worse than Superman with a mullet?

Clark Kent with a PONYTAIL.

G Gordon Liddy cured by anti-evil ray!

Agnew on the far right. Or is that LBJ?

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Friday, 14 October 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

awesomely, when DC introduced electrosuperman, the house ads consisted simply of a standing shot of the blue oaf, lightning crackling from his eyes, alongside the slogan "This time, we've changed more than his HAIRSTYLE."

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 14 October 2005 07:04 (twenty years ago)

hahaha i totally thought 'agnew' too

when i read the morrison jla's thanx to ilc reccommends i swear it seemed like every six issues superman would come in with some new 'look' and i'd be wondering 'wtf was going on with superman during the nineties'. there's a great hilarious scene in ic#1 where the 'big three' are basically getting superpissy with each other, 'you've always been an asshole' type stuff, where batman tells superman the last cool thing he did was die, he totally shoulda thrown in a comment about the mullet or 'remember when you dressed like a cross between firestorm and nightwing? boy that was just SUPER wasn't it?'.
