Superheroes Who Finished College

Oh, because we need a goofy thread this week with all the GNASHING OF MULTIVERSES and HOUSE OF Ms and Booster Gold's SHOCKING DEATH in Firestorm.

Matt Murdock obviously has a law degree, Clark Kent somehow finished a degree (possibly in journalism?), and uh, does Peter Parker have B.Sc.?

I remember several post-YO Batman stories that flashed back to Bruce Wayne acting the fool in criminology classes and then returning the next day dressed up as a hobo to ask piercing questions. So he's probably a drop-out.
Booster Gold (R.I.P.) was kicked out (will be kicked out) of Metropolis State University sometime in the 25th C after being busted for betting on college football games he was playing in.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 13 October 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

All Doctors to thread.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Thursday, 13 October 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

You're shitting me re: Booster Gold, right?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 13 October 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

You mean you haven't read this week's Firestorm?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 13 October 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

At some point, Peter Parker received his degree. I remember him working on research during the Stern & Romita era, and I'd even dare to say he taught at university.

iodine (iodine), Thursday, 13 October 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

He teaches high school now, doesn't he? Don't you need something for that?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 13 October 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

You're shitting me re: actually reading Firestorm, right? I mean, just because I seemingly read EVERYTHING doesn't mean I read EVERY THING.

Also: c'mon, Firestorm is so lame. Now Breach - THAT'S the spicy meatball!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 13 October 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm, it's almost like I made some big claim about something catastrophic happening in an obscure title just because I knew that no one would be able to contradict me. Nawww, I wouldn't do that...or would I???

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 13 October 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

(p.s., in his Nerdsarama OMAC post-humdrum, Rucka confirms that BG has indeed gone back to the future)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 13 October 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

Mr Fabtastic must have a pretty huge dick PhD. In something.

steviespitfire (steviespitfire), Thursday, 13 October 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

ahem.

Mr FaNtastic.

steviespitfire (steviespitfire), Thursday, 13 October 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty sure Spider-Man finished his Master's degree at some point cause I'm pretty sure there was story where dropped out of graduate school and then triumphantly re-entered. Somewhere in the late #200s of Amazing?

Occam, Thursday, 13 October 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

Dr. Bruce Banner.

Dr Strange? He was a surgeon or something, right?

Barry Allen - you must need a degree to be a police scientist.

Dick Grayson finished College too, didn't he?

David N (David N.), Thursday, 13 October 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

Carter Hall was an archaeologist, as was his wife. Rex Tyler an inventor/scientist. Wesley Dodds seemed all kinds of educated. Both Mr. Terrifics had a bunca degrees.

Them X-types all graduated Xavier's... think there was a post high-school program there?

bucky wunderlick (bucky), Friday, 14 October 2005 00:38 (twenty years ago)

Beast's a Doctor, and Iceman definitely did a course at Uni, probably in the arts since he never applied his knowledge to any situation.

Vic Fluro (Vic Fluro), Friday, 14 October 2005 06:24 (twenty years ago)

The Atom is a professor or doctor or something

Mark C (Markco), Friday, 14 October 2005 07:35 (twenty years ago)

John Stewart's an architect - you need some kind of degree for that. And Kyle Rayner probably has a bit of paper on his wall from art college.

Vic Fluro (Vic Fluro), Friday, 14 October 2005 09:02 (twenty years ago)

Blue Beetle, the Dead One, er, the most recently Dead One, Ted Kord, obvious had some kinda engineering or something degree. (and he actually had the first BB, Dan Garrett of Everyone Loves Raymond fame, as his archeology prof in college--that's how they met!) Scientific genius and all that. But he also was a big lit fan (at least in JLI) making funnies re: Moby Dick and Gogol's "Overcoat".

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

Evidence seems to be that DC's superheroes are better educated than Marvel's. I mean, did Thor even finish high school?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

Oh oh, don't Air Force pilots have to be college grads? Ergoo, Hal Jordan!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Isn't Thor's secret identity an MD, though?

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Oh. That shows me, I guess.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

Did Kitty Pryde? I think she did.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

Huk - don't feel so bad. Calamity Jon makes a great point about that very thing about halfway down this page.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 14 October 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

I thought Iceman studied journalism.

I think Warren's got a college degree, too.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Friday, 14 October 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Warren Worthington II probably bought him one from Harvard.

chap who would dare to kill all the threads (chap), Friday, 14 October 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

HEY NOW. I think you mean Yale.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Friday, 14 October 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

Does Dr Doom actually have a doctorate, or did he just change his firstname by deed poll?

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 14 October 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

He rules a country. he can have as many doctorates as he damn well likes.

chap who would dare to violate the least amount of laws of physics (chap), Friday, 14 October 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

dr doom's not a HERO! the man's a monster!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 14 October 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

I thought that he left College after the accident that destroyed his face, anyway. The big wuss.

David N (David N.), Friday, 14 October 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

Honorary doctorate from the University of Latveria presumably.

Vic Fluro (Vic Fluro), Friday, 14 October 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

Home of the Grovellin' Peons!

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 14 October 2005 22:55 (twenty years ago)

Or is it the Short-Lived Henchmen?

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 14 October 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

dr doom's not a HERO! the man's a monster!

He's just reacting to American Imperialism!

The Liberal Media (Leee), Friday, 14 October 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

i feel like I'm going to regret posting that scenario...

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Saturday, 15 October 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

i wonder if John Constantine even finished secondary school

kingfish neopolitan sundae (kingfish 2.0), Saturday, 15 October 2005 00:36 (twenty years ago)

Home of the Grovellin' Peons!

Or is it the Short-Lived Henchmen?

Lazoo Doombots.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Saturday, 15 October 2005 01:44 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, I'm reasonably certain that Doom's Ph.D. is legit. I rather expect that his Doctoral Thesis was "Silicon Metal-Semiconductor-Metal Photodetectors: Ion-Implanted High-Speed Near-Infrared Photodiodes and The Crimson Bands of Cyttorak."

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Saturday, 15 October 2005 04:43 (twenty years ago)

eight months pass...
no one seems to have mentiond tony stark , sue is a scientest to and ben was a pilot. Frank Castle was an FBI special forces which means he was mostlikly in college at some point after he served in the military Jmaie Madrox has several degrees according to his Madrox Mini, and the X-Factor ongoing including a law degree.

Christopher Goodnight (saintsaucey), Thursday, 6 July 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

Is it FBI or CIA that requires agents to have law degrees? Or is that just something I've imagined?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 6 July 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

Um, both, I would hope?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 6 July 2006 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

She-Hulk has a law degree! So does the Two-Gun Kid!
THEY ARE BOTH FBI AGENTS NOW.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 6 July 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know why, but I don't think it's true of either, and I'm not sure why it would be desirable. Unless there's some kind of law degree that has more to do with enforcement than litigation, but I never heard of such a thing. Isn't that usually considered a criminology degreee? NB - I am pretty pig-ignorant of that kinda stuff.

You're the king of me in this regard, Austin.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 6 July 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

No law degree required: http://www.fbijobs.gov/

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 6 July 2006 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

Both Iceman and Angel were at the same university/college...for a while at least - see The Champions trade for further info.

I suspect that Nick Fury probably attended some sort of Officer training college (Annapolis or West Point or something like that) which would imply he has a degree

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Thursday, 6 July 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

Nick Fury, Year One:

"Hey, will you fellas put out those cigars? The study hall is no-smoking!"
