OMG you can get George and Lynne online????????

Lynne is ageless but I don't fancy "'Mantha" much.

Also that strip is very atypical G&L.

Unless they've changed the formula so that it's now a lame joke strip in which case BOO HISS.

No archive, sadly.

Anyway a defence of G&L would rest on it being in a harmless tradition of cheesecake art (starting with 'Jane' in the UK) and on it having some value as a record of trivial social concerns. I'm interested in whether the world of G&L is meant to reflect Sun readers' actual lives, or the lives they aspire to, or neither.

The other interesting thing about G&L is that while I guess most people's preconceptions of them are of vaguely sleazy swingers their actual love life appears to be pretty monogamous and vanilla.

If Manara or someone drew George and Lynne everyone would think it was a classic, so it's not the idea of the strip that's at fault or even the apallingly lame writing, it's the reliably boring and sketchy drawing.

The lives Sun readers aspire to, definitely.
Has anyone else read Yellow Dog? Remember the Readers' Wives?

Ray (Ray), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 12:01 (twenty years ago)

Fuck man, I aspire to George's life and I would never even read the Sun! That guys got it made (except for that bit where they introduced continuity and Lynne was gonna have an affair!)

I think Mantha's quite fit.

I, the Dirty Vicar, hereby make your wish come true.

ten months pass...
How far along are you into it now, mark? And do you find your deal with the vicar to have been ultimately rewarding?

George And Lynne used to be drawn by John Burns, who's a great artist, which proved that even the best art going can't save lame writing.

Reading this page from top to bottom just made me laugh harder than more or less anything else ever. Try to read Page 1 first though to build up to it
