The cover is really horrible.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Oh, it's not too bad. Nicely coloured. Doesn't look much like the Neal Adams of yore.

That pose looks very....hurty. I can tell it's Adams and all, but it's an unusual piece for him. The full-bore-computerized coloring kinda helps obscure the Adamsness of it.

Isn't it one of those shots from above, with Superman screaming "Nooooo!!!!!" and such?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 20 October 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

Wow, that cover is awful! Couldn't they just have a second cover drawn by Quitely, who is the major selling point of the series to begin with?

seven months pass...
This weekend, Super Con in Oakland was supposed to have Sienkiewicz in attendance. I emailed the organizers to see where he would be and what he would be doing, and the reply:

Unfortunately, he canceled today, he was behind on a deadline for Neal Adams. Sorry

Is this possibly the Neal Adams/Frank Miller/Bill Siekiwicz Bat-Depravity?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 22 May 2006 03:14 (nineteen years ago)

(I am embarrassed to say that I've never gotten the Sienkiewicz/Adams connection because I'm not familiar enough w/ NA!)

xpost - news to me! That's not the Miller/Al Qaeda thing, is it?

c(''c) (Leee), Monday, 22 May 2006 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think so. I'd heard somewhere that Adams had said something about a Bat-project w/ Miller (possibly the second story of ASB&RTBW), and it would be awesome if Sienkiewicz was inking it.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 22 May 2006 03:27 (nineteen years ago)

that would be non-awesome, since Sienkiewicz outgrew his Adams-clonism over twenty years ago, and it's horrible to see him hack at the best of times, but even worse for him to regress. Even if he's actually awesoming it up himself, instead of pretending to be Generic Continuity Intern #738, it's still boring LOOK! FORCED PERSPECTIVE! Adams pencils underneath (or more likely boring Generic Continuity Intern #734 pencils rubberstamped by Adams), and Miller hasn't written a decent comic book in 17 years.

(Although I suspect ASSBATS would actually be great if every issue was the same plot and dialogue, but six pages long and drawn by Roger Langridge.)
